re: tradition

Hello KMII!

While many see it as a holiday/day off and to have a nice backyard BBQ party with family and friends, Memorial Day is to honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.  We have another holiday (Veteran's Day) to honor those that have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Our flag is raised at sunrise to the top and then brought to half staff and remains there until noon.  It is then raised to the top staff until sunset (or stay at full staff when lit at night) when it is slowly lowered.  In L.A. there were parades in different parts of the city as well as festivals for the long weekend.
