After walking on the hot hillside We drove south a couple miles, in and out of private roads, trying to find a way to the edge of the cool lagoon. This was the best we could do.

A fat hummingbird greeted me as I started out on the trail.

We read this sign and stayed alert.

The trail was mostly level and sometimes damp. As we went farther it turned to sand; it was like walking on the beach. I guess that's expected on the edge of a lagoon, but it was tiring.

Hmmm, a thoughful lumberjack left me a chair.

As you can see the conditions (foliage, topography) were completely different than on our first hike just 2-3 miles away.

Today's watch is the Louis Erard Alain Silberstein Edition Regulator.

There was lots of pollen in the flowers and many bees busy taking it home to the hive.

The trail became mucky here.

The birds were singing, loudly.

This area was a cross between a swamp and a jungle.

We stopped by a cactus flower to watch a bee rolling in the pollen.
She was so covered in pollen that she couldn't climb up and out of the blossom.

I pulled one of the petals over, offering a route out, and she took it.

We reached "the wires" and turned around here.

Again, the birds were busy singing and staring at us. But not showing any sign of fear.

I don't know what this vine is, but it has certainly taken over in this region of the lagoon.

There was open water here but I couldn't get a clear photo of it.

We made it back to the truck without seeing any mountain lions, mountain bikes, unleashed dogs or other dangers.

Finally, we saw this stubby little Ford pickup on the way home!
