I believe some of his perceived arrogance in both his life and quotes actually came about through frustration at others just not getting it. Who knows just what life would be like now if it wasn't for his work "allegedly" being quashed and stolen by banke...

He was, to say the least, heavily criticized most of his life, and this was a logical and natural statement for him to make given the environment and prevailing opinions during his lifetime.... He, like Einstein, wasn't one for accolades to begin with ......
