...for a short (too short) visit. Of course, the first person I contacted was Ken (KiH). I first met him in 2014 while living in Tokyo on a 16-month assignment for my wife’s company. We had dinner a few months ago when he was in San Francisco. It was good to catch up with a fellow WIS last week over coffee in Roppongi.
I was wondering why I stopped seeing his posts recently. It seems that he (among many other well-known Purists) are no longer welcome here...I had no idea. I can’t understand how differences of opinion can get in the way of what we are all here for; our passion for everything ‘watches.’
It is a shame that he won’t be posting here about SIHH as I always enjoyed his articles about the watch events in Japan and elsewhere. It is rare to find someone who can write eloquently in two languages (that I know of) and with so much passion. I will miss reading his work on these forums.
He recommended that I visit Hour Glass in Ginza and use his name as a reference. I immediately visited and spoke to the manager who was indeed aware of Ken. I was treated very well (of course, to be expected in Japan). I also spent time at the Lange boutique and they were very kind. I asked about the special edition (Japan only) Daymatic. I was surprised to hear that it was sold out in just two days!
I was happy to be back in my favorite city and am walking many miles every day so I can eat the wonderful food (ramen, yakitori, tonkatsu, etc.) and drink lots of beer : )
If you are ever in Tokyo, Ken is a great guy to meet and speak to. He is a gracious host with great knowledge of the Tokyo watch scene. I wish him the best of luck writing in another forum about his SIHH adventures. I, for one, will miss his valuable contributions and can only wish him the best of fortune.
