Hello dear Cookies! Glad to know I serve to inspire you with this post. It is true I had been an admirer and follower of 007 since I viewed the first two films around 1964 or 1965 and became...

... hooked with the character.

In my humble opinion Sean Connery was the actor who set the bar very high with his three first films. All actors behind him were compared to him and some played 007 with more or less fortune. Definitively he is my favorite Bond.

Also in my personal opinion, Daniel Craig is the actor who better played having to his side the much better technical resources for special effects and filming in general which enhances the action of his films and his own play.

I also liked Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan. Moore added an special "casual" and more humoresque attitude to his Bond, and Brosnan his style and class as a more modern Bond.

I feel Craig will be missed and that it will be very tough matter to choose the new Bond and very hard to whoever plays it to replace the image Craig has built around the character.

Interesting post Cookies! Thank you so much and I will read with much interest the opinions of each participant.

Cheers! Abel

Which is your favourite James Bond Actor

 By: Cookies : February 27th, 2021-08:42
Inspired by Abel’s love for JB (and admittedly my fascination since childhood), I’d like to ask which is your favourite JB actor and why? I’ll chip in as the replies come in about my favourite actors in this role. Credits: Irishtimes ...

The part where he pulls out an Omega from an old cupboard next to Michelle Yeoh. That piece is etched in my mind since then.

Great scene indeed!

But couldn’t find any on the used market, so I went the closest I could find. How is that beauty holding up? Is the lume still working after 33 years? Have a great week.

I’ve taken the battery out since the last service and my last diving trip over

From Bond to Hunt for Red October and Entrapment just to name a few

Craig.

 By: vitalsigns : February 27th, 2021-08:51
I do like Connery, but he was too suave and not as believable as a character. Craig's character is a badass, but with human imperfections that add to the story. Casino Royale was by far the best Bond film ever, including a much more believable villain. Ch...

Did Daniel Craig influence your watch choices?

 By: Cookies : February 27th, 2021-08:55
He did cause me to get an Omega AT in blue. Yes, I agree with your choice, DC is a great portrayal of JB. I can’t wait to see the new film.

+1

Nothing for me to add. Cheers Marc

What do u think of Dalton?

 By: Cookies : February 27th, 2021-09:17
Some say he fits the description of the Bond books.

I think he looked the part but

 By: Gwai : February 27th, 2021-09:28
left us wanting in the charisma department, sadly. So far I have only read the very first novel, Casino Royale, and I thought it was actually badly written... Cheers Marc

Totally agree..

 By: myles721 : February 27th, 2021-10:19
Fleming IMO was not a great writer...the credit goes to the film crews. Amazing set design by Adams fabulous styling, dialogue and acting.

He wrote for the 50s middle class and that imo quite good.

 By: Reuven Malter : February 27th, 2021-10:26
I have all books at home, but only read 3 so far...

He most certainly did !

Connery or Craig🤔(the rest pale in comparison IMO)

 By: myles721 : February 27th, 2021-08:55
I don’t think the franchise would have become what it did if you reversed the order and started with Craig so.....CONNERY👑👑👑

Craig would've been a

 By: Gwai : February 27th, 2021-09:01
villain in the beginning and he would have taken a lot of moderation even to fit into that part. Cheers Marc

Very interesting analysis

 By: Cookies : February 27th, 2021-09:16
Indeed, it is true. If DC would have started the franchise, it might be a different trajectory.

Somehow, my choice is quite unexpected

 By: Cookies : February 27th, 2021-09:31
The scene from Gibraltar was my favourite Bond scene. Something in this scene makes JB look tough enough to be a commando or navy seal. I didn’t know he even wore a watch until I searched it up to find this: Credit: Pinterest Credit: Oracle of Time Credit...

I used to look past his character

 By: Cookies : February 27th, 2021-09:54
Until I watch The Living Daylights the third time, and fell into a daydreaming reverie that I was a commando on a skirmish on Gibraltar.

I just bought the piece

The “Timothy Dalton” itch is too hard to cure, so I called the AD (they have it in stock) and got the modern version of the full lume dial. Regrettably it is quartz but I guess I will give it a harder life than a mechanical piece. These quartz tags remind...

Somehow...i thought abt the new JB seamaster and voila, it shows up in it’s splendour -one with a very diff take on a seamaster. It seems to be designed ground-up for the role, instead of the cosmetic changes on many previous models. I like this model too...

That caseback is really nice!

 By: Reuven Malter : February 27th, 2021-10:27

They have moved away from having too much commercial/007 things on both watches

You know much about guns, Mr. Bond? James Bond: No, but I know a little about women.

 By: myles721 : February 27th, 2021-09:42
Try running this line through all of the actors personas. Or... It looks difficult....Why no, it isn't, is it?" - That was the magic of Connery.

Truly

 By: Cookies : February 27th, 2021-09:55
Only he can pull off the difficult nuances of character which the other actors may struggle with. He is a complex Bond.

Well said!

My rating in order:

 By: nasseriq : February 27th, 2021-12:28
Connery Daniels Lazenby Dalton Moore Brosnan - And Brosnan was not bad!

Because Skye Fall is to me the best Bond movie, it has to be Craig.

By: COUNT DE MONET : February 27th, 2021-09:50
Casino Royale was great, too. Before Craig it was certainly Sean Connery. Maybe each is the best for theire generation?

True. Javier's character was too soft.

Which is the best villian?

 By: Cookies : February 28th, 2021-02:22
I am terrified by Pauco Bautista’s character although he was shortlived.

...step ahead of law and not just maimed outcasts living in alternate universe- typical bond villian. Too easy/stupid targets to antagonize any form of govt. Although their selection of Henchmen was always commendable.

The true villian is often “grey imminence”

 By: Cookies : February 28th, 2021-06:18
He’d sit back and move the pieces, and more often or not, he doesn’t have his name to anything. They are not the scary ones like Jaws or Mr Hinx, but rather the ones who have these scary lesser-villians on reign. I think Ernst Blofeld fits that descriptio...

Actually although a little stiff at times

I really liked Lazenby...and Majesty’s was maybe tied as my favorite film.

Yeah Telly Savalas

Even Roger Moore?

 By: amanico : February 27th, 2021-10:06

I think RM

 By: Cookies : February 27th, 2021-10:08
Is the most handsome Bond in a classic British proportion. Looks like a knight, even knightier when he was old. I like his style of comedy.

Me too!

 By: amanico : February 27th, 2021-10:37

Even Roger Moore . . .

 By: edtonkin : February 27th, 2021-10:10

Dalton seemed most realistic of all Operatives. SC was most envied I wud say due the macho factor. He wud come across as MCP today and get 'Canceled' in mins. DC adapted to signs of time..

 By: redcorals : February 27th, 2021-10:01
...macho yet emotionally vulnerable against powerful women - still a bit fantastic but fit enuf to luk legitimate. RM was the most charming of all but lightweight - downright farcical - to come across as a field agent. PB luks like a chocolatey diplomatic...

Yes..Dalton portrayed the operative role so well

 By: Cookies : February 27th, 2021-10:16
Ok I’d admit. I have an uncle who was a special forces commando. He was cold, detached and skinny, yet he could run 10km without effort, or eke out 20 pullups like a piston, or be thrown in the Siberian tundra for a week on a skirmish, and survive it. Som...

Yes it seems to reflect free love

 By: Cookies : February 28th, 2021-02:21
My fav part of RM is his bell bottom trousers. I’m gonna get a few done at the tailors one day.

The Hildebrand Rarity is my favourite

 By: Cookies : February 27th, 2021-10:10
Somehow it reminds me of my best days exploring the reefs. Now life has taken a toll, and I’m stuck to a desk mostly.

Moore’s first two films yes...

 By: myles721 : February 27th, 2021-10:11
My problem with him was the comedy and eventually the age. Half the time I was expecting the hench people to ask him if he was OK and did they hurt him...

RM doesn’t look combat ready

 By: Cookies : February 28th, 2021-02:20
He looks more of a gentleman from a polo club or an old retired officer from the navy with arthritis. But he is special in his era-defining acting in that character, with the laid-back appearance and good luck (he always seems to come out unscathed)

Tough one

 By: George Gently : February 27th, 2021-10:25
Roger Moore and Daniel Craig for me. If I had to choose one; I’d need more time, a bottle of good whiskey and see some of my favorite Bond movies.

Did u get this piece?

I admire it from afar. Which is your fav piece from the franchise?

And the one who could survive the Brocolli family, according to the documentary of James Bond on Stan.

This is going to be controversial but pierce brosnan is my fav and his personal collection is noice!

 By: Spencer Karrington : February 27th, 2021-16:07
I think that while the movies may not be the best and his acting may not be the best (both for me go to Daniel Craig) I really think that he epitomizes the fun of James Bond and the romanitization of James Bond. So they are very opposite in terms of style...

I like Brosnan in everything BUT Bond..

 By: myles721 : February 27th, 2021-16:54
The Ghost Writer, November Man, Tailor Of Panama, Mars Attacks...etc. Bond...MEH.

Those movies are excellent

 By: Cookies : February 28th, 2021-02:12
I watched them all. I rmbered that PB once said in an interview that he is a shy person, and if you’d find him in the supermarket, he’d often look lost.

PB is so polarizing

 By: Cookies : February 28th, 2021-02:14
I grew up in that era after SC, so I was exposed to Bond through PB’s interpretation. I think that could have skewed my preference. Imagine if SC were placed in the modern Bond, with all the high tech graphics and CGI, he’d be even more of a hit.

I can def see that!!

 By: Spencer Karrington : March 1st, 2021-14:31
I was sort of in the same boat in a way, a lot of the first james bond movies I saw were the PB ones!

Always liked Pierce Brosnan very much, even though

 By: Thomas_3 : February 27th, 2021-16:43
some of his lines, were by his own admission pretty cheesy. Daniel Craig came along and pretty much stole the show. Pierce Brosnan will always be my favorite however.

PB and TD for me

 By: Cookies : February 28th, 2021-02:11
Somehow PB represented the flamboyance of that era, with all the product placements such as Hertz Rentals, BMWs etc. My fav scene was the tank he drove into the city. TD is more of a true operative. He has that realistic “cruel smile” that Ian Flemming de...

Sean Connery and George Lazenby for me.

 By: HK852 : February 27th, 2021-18:49
Lazenby did just one movie. So it is hard to assess with confidence. He was ticking several boxes though. And he had a pretty good Bond watch! Craig is in 3rd! Tibo

Did they inspire you to collect Bond equipment

 By: Cookies : March 1st, 2021-07:59
I’m dreaming of a few other pieces other than the Bond pieces and let’s see what happens if I enter an Omega shop and a Bond piece is presented. I regretted the time when I could have bought the Pierce Brosnan era automatic SM in blue, for many years ago...

But USD2.3K, years ago

 By: HK852 : March 2nd, 2021-05:17
Is not what you will pay the SM of Spectre or No Time To Die today event with inflation. The base price of watches has jumped sooo much.
