Changing of the Guard (22 Pics)

As a result of changing my high-end private security job a week ago, I had to consider something as generally inconsequential as the color of my duty firearm.... Given that half a year ago when I purchased the Kimber SS Raptor II my original intent was to actually get the CA approved Springfield Operator, which I had been 'hunting' for a substantial amount of time, I ventured to see if one was currently available.... Lo and behold, there were a few available in the new/used market at any given time but at significant mark-ups over msrp (~$1,700) - between $2,200 and $2,800! Now, I don't mind paying a small premium for hard-to-find/out of production firearms, but that was a tall order despite the TRP forever being a 'Top 3' 1911 option in my mind........ Enter a chance search on GunBroker two weeks ago when a man who recently moved out of California to Arkansas posted his barely 'used' (~100 rounds) TRP which he was keeping locked-up pending his cross-country move.... I was fortunate to see the listing within 24h of him posting it online, and realizing that this was the CA-designated version I happily paid him a $200 premium over regular retail to obtain this timelessly cool 1911 from Springfield Armory. He had placed sleek-looking genuine carbon-fiber grips on it, which look aesthetically excellent, but given my intended 'professional' use, I immediately reverted to the OEM 'sandpaper' grips.... Regardless of design preferences, I hope you enjoy the 'gun porn pictures' I could not help but immediately generate - as cool as 1911s get without being bespoke one-offs wink........ Cheers, Filip biggrin

IMHO custom in any hobby can be taste but mostly money game. TRP is pure taste and class game (regardless of price🙂). I would keep it factory spec.

In total agreement with you GM!!

I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments. I feel, as much as I liked the stock Kimber, the stock TRP is simply a better 1911 overall. It offers more pragmatic, duty-focused, options; plus I believe has a degree of higher quality finishing overall. If y...

My first reaction when I saw the carbon was how slippery it may become with sweaty hands, looks ready for active duty after your change!

get a chance to shoot and compare the ones I've owned to one or both of those!! I'll end up getting a 'top of the line' bespoke Infinity 2011 early next year, I already placed the order a couple of months ago........

Congrats on a sweet order!

For me these are recreation. I'm sure you could actually use the 1911s I have to their potential. To be honest since covid started and my range was closed I haven't gotten back into the swing of it much. Adding more kids to the equation also does eliminat...

My best friend was in the same field and he would always tell us amazing stories of protecting his clients. He once told me a story which seemed like a version of Mission Impossible 1, where the team was betrayed, and someone (his good friend) lost his li...

I sincerely appreciate your compliments, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your account of some of your friend's experiences as a personal bodyguard, but I have to say that I intentionally don't travel with the couple, only one person out of the five of us...

Ah you’d enjoy 1 movie

Man Vs Bee, starred by Rowan Atkinson. He was babysitting a house and all sorts of funny scenarios happened. I laughed thoroughly through the movie. It is on netflix now.=D

I've yet to meet this new client of mine since he's out of town at the moment, but given that he's got a few billion to his name, it'll be interesting to see which watches he's into, if at all........

Sounds good

Pls share after you’ve done so (when it’s safe).

May I ask what makes it CA legal?

I have zero idea as to what internal component differentiation may or may not exist in order to make this particular version (whose model number ends with CA instead of numerals) exist on the official California approved roster! Just goes to show how this...

Thanks!

stilted response I got from their online content team: 'The CA government has restrictions in place making it impossible for manufacturers to offer new firearms in the state. We keep a number of CA compliant SKUs in our line just for you guys but won’t be...

Additional (actual) info....

From SA representatives: 'It has either been grandfathered in OR it has the ILS system which is the inner locking system that is used to lock the gun with a small key (extra safety feature). That would be the only difference.' I've never used the ILS feat...

Thanks for following up on this!
