We took the flight on Sunday... an update...

Apr 28, 2020,08:49 AM

Out of 175 total seats, there were about 75 of us on board.  That was much more than I expected.  (A Southwest Airlines 737 Model 800)

The first three rows in front and in the back were roped off.  There was no service during the flight other than trash pick up.

The middle seats were empty.  Many of us had masks and gloves on.  Most of the younger folks did not.

In contrast, in today's Wall Street Journal there is a story about a few folks who were the only passengers on their respective flights.  That was interesting.

All the best...

Off-Topic a little here... Has anyone been on a plane lately? (USA)

We have to take a flight this coming weekend. The airline (SWA) says our flight is at about 50% capacity. Has anyone been on a commercial flight lately? What have you seen? Thanks... and all the best. Stay safe! HEO

That's a minimum! [nt]

Even when international flights resume the need for social distancing (and the virus) is going to be around for a very long time. I would have thought unwise to take any flight unless really necessary in 2020

Sure, Europe (or at least Italy and Germany) were an issue as well on May 6, as my last leg is Munich-Genova that was also gone.

Hopefully things will improve by the end of May, but I'm growing skeptical...and if I ever make it to Italy, then (at least for now) people coming into the country are subject to a two-week mandatory quarantine (where mandatory means under threat of crimi...

A friend from church moved to Naples a month ago

With wife and 3 kids. He’s in the Navy so they did not really have a choice about it. The family are all cooped up in a hotel but he has to work 4 of each 7 days.

Starting May 4, it looks like the government will timidly loosen up some restrictions, and from what we understand so far, people should at least be able to take a walk without being stopped by the police...

Fortunately for them, the South (including the region of Napoli) has not been hit too hard, relatively speaking. So combining this with the upcoming hot weather and the fact that in Napoli rules are viewed in a more "relaxed" way, I'm sure your friend's f...

My friend works for airplane caterers

Last flight from San Diego - Tokyo had 13 meals delivered vs 250 normal. Coach passengers get no meal service on 12 hr flight. Flights cancelled to all other international destinations.

That. Would. Suck. [nt]

Social distancing at the airport and then they cram everyone on the plan as usual with maybe 1/2 people wearing masks

 By: Fastwong : April 23rd, 2020-21:32
I would wear a big mask and eye protection. It would suck to get covid19 while you're away from home. You never know how packed a flight will be (delays, cancellations) and given the recirculating air it kinda doesn't matter how far away you sit from othe...

Thanks for all the replies... I do appreciate it...

Unfortunately, one of my In-Laws has Dementia and this forces us to fly. To say I am worried would be an understatement. Given a choice, I would drive the 1200 miles in a heartbeat. Of course, taking 4 of us (+ a small dog) in a car for that distance, one...

Wow ... I made "that trip" with my mother a few years ago and it was very stressful for everyone

Perhaps today and with lower volumes the TSA will be more tolerant of a person with limited ability to understand what's going on. It was the last flight of my mom's life, back to our former home town of Seattle to see her friends for the last time. Lucki...
