Kipchoge!

For any of you that are runners, or athletic, or sports fans I’m sure you were aware of Kipchoge’s efforts to break the 2 hour marathon barrier in the last few years. From Nike’s Breaking 2 a couple of years ago to this morning’s Ineos 1:59 Challenge it’s...

The times are impossible to comprehend.

I think if you run, or are a runner, the pace that these guys run 26 miles at is mind blowing. Even for those that are age group competitive, Boston Qualifiers for example which is the cream of age groupers, this is still just off the charts pacing.

A milestone (pun intended) run under near laboratory conditions

A lot of money, millions, have been spent to make this possible, even a newly made surface for a part of the street he was running. Certainly a fantastic achievement, no doubt about that!

All that stuff makes it interesting too.

...the guys on bikes providing nutrition, the meteorologists and all the other preparation and science that went into it, he still had to run it.

Have you ever run for few km?

Even my mile (or 1500m if you think classic track distance) is materially slower than that. That’s just one effort, all out. These guys put 26 of those back to back.

That’s a fair point of view.

It was an experiment, that wouldn’t have happened without the marketing dollars (from Nike, then Ineos). I think it will lead to open marathon times breaking that barrier, and it already has resulted in Kipchoge running the two fastest official marathon t...
