Nice building not so nice history.

I was out on the bike for the day yesterday on the local canal network I took one of the canal loops that took me past HMP Winson Green which I’ve driven past the main entrance hundreds of times but never actually bothered to take a walk to the rear of the grounds and local park play area. The imposing building you would think was a stately home was once the main entrance to All Saints hospital (known as the lunatic asylum) It’s now used by the magistrates justice office. Such a beautiful building with I imagine so many sad stories I took the story below from a local history archive.

Pics I took of the imposing main building with the existing prison walls to either side.

To either side you can see the existing prison walls.

Not the nicest story to post but that’s history I suppose and all this from a Saturday bike ride I learnt a bit of history also about a building I’ve bypassed many times.
