Killing time looking in the backyards of the super rich...

Hi all,

The internet allows you to do things that were unheard of only a few years ago. One such thing is taking a look in the backyards of the super rich. I do it sometimes to kill time, just from behind my computer. First I used google earth or maps, but on this front microsoft has surpassed google with their birdeye view. It is a bit like flying over the houses with a helicopter.

Why I do it I don't really know. It is just amazing to see what money can buy...

A few examples (you can navigate yourself, most areas have more than one megamansion...)

First how they used to live in the gilded age. The Breakers in Newport Beach, RI:

No matter how large your piece of land is, neighbours complain. Apperently Jerry Seinfeld got complaints about the baseballfield. Oh, and the house in construction is probably just the guest house.

$125,000,000 for house? That's what Donald Trump wants for his house in Palm Beach. The neighbours' house (to the right) isn't shabby either

$125,000,000 for house? Nobody is going to pay such an amount for a house....! Well, people do.  Bernie ecclestone got it from Lakshi Mittal for this palace in downtown London

Seems though that with a bit of a search you can get far better deals. Just south of Palm Beach in Manalapan this former Vanderbilt, now Hearst mansion is for sale for a mere $27M....

And there is so much more. I didn't even show a house in Calfornia, or around Seattle or Chicago or Greenwich Conneticut (well, the birdview doesn't work there...). Anyone else likes to fly around with google or microsoft?

Regards,
Joram

(This might not work without IE BTW....)
