Another possibility is Juan-les Pins and the Hotel Belles Rives. F. Scott Fitzgerald stayed there while writing Tender Is The Night. The novel is a wonderful snap shot of a time when the south of France became a destination.

I like it a lot — it is full of detail, sometimes, too much, but overall it is a very interesting read about an amazing person, her French and expatriate friends, and a special time in a special place.
