I'd say he lived a full life. I started reading his novels as a child and still think George Smiley was the best depiction ever of a spy.

I 've read every one of his books but one; some 4 times. He took the spy novel to a place that maybe only Eric Ambler before had even tried to reach. His books were "L"iterature-capital "L". As a human being he was interesting; problematic, and that came ...
