For Classical Music Lovers

Today was rather mixed.
It started with the joys of vaccination #3, preceded by a lenghty wait in very cold windy weather. Honestly I think it might have frozen the b*lls off a brass monkey. Shivering city!
With that out of the way I treated myself to an excellent flat white and pain aux raisins.
Then on to the main event, the Wigmore Hall BBC Lunchtime concert, a solo recital by Alim Beisembayev, the winner of this year's Leed's Piano Competition.
To say I was blown away would have been an understatement.
The first work was a Clementi sonata, although I have listened to some of them on CD, they never struck me as being anything special. Wowza, was I mistaken! It was beautiful, the slow movement especially so.
This work is worth getting to know.
Then onto Chopin Preludes, they were first rate in that modern style of Kolesnikov and Batsashvili. Light touch, delicate phrasing, subtle perfectly delineated dynamics, massive technique, flawless playing.
Beismbayev is one to watch.
Here is a link to the YouTube of today's concert,,, enjoy!

Clementi,,, now I have a lot of catching up to do. Can you recommend any specific works? Kind regards Antony

I really like the sonata in F-sharp minor

Here is horowitz: www.youtube.com I must include the disclaimer that I am not a Clementi expert by any means - I still haven't listened to most of his work. But of what I've heard, this sonata is definitely my favorite. I even tried to arrange it ...

Thanks

I will listen to it with great interest. May I introduce to Alexandra Dovgan? She is likely to be one of the greatest pianists ever, even Sokolov rates her: www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.youtube.com ww...

I believe you already have

In an earlier post. Needless to say, I was impressed then and I am still impressed now! I only hope the pressure of greatness at such a young age does not cause her career to end prematurely.

The last concert I attended that could be even remotely considered classical . . .

. . . was a Christmas chorale a few years ago, just before covid. It seems like an eternity, doesn't it? Art

Very enjoyable listening...

.... lithe finger work in the preludes and strong dynamics. Haven't been at the Wigmore Hall in years, probably a Gavrilov recital long ago. Thanks for sharing.

It is my pleasure

I agree. He has that weird facility of not appearing to have his fingers move much. The Wigmore has some great concerts in the first quarter of 2022. Kind regards Antony

Thanks for the link!!!
