I haven’t shot much at all but 1911s are my favourite by far, from kimber to even stock rentals.

From semi-custom to high-custom 1911

 By: InHavenPro : April 4th, 2022-18:45
After taking a few days to thoroughly modify my stock, semi-custom, Kimber Raptor II, it is now a firearm which could qualify for the moniker 'high-custom'. I added the gorgeous, single piece, shooter-installed Stan Chen SS magwell; as well as the Nightha...

:D

Not only am I headed to the range in the next few days, I booked an intensive, 3 day shooting course with Haley Strategic Partners called D5 mid May. Can't wait . Cheers, Filip

Beautiful piece of kit

Don't know the first thing about firearms but I

wholeheartedly agree, in the looks department. Cheers Marc

As the Brits would say....

'Chuffed to bits' . Cheers, Filip

Nice. I am SERIOUSLY considering

a Kimber Ultra Carry, want something lighter and more compact than my Ruger SR1911.

I've only read....

 By: InHavenPro : April 4th, 2022-20:04
and seen positive impressions of that one. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts if you end up getting it.... Cheers, Filip

I am definitely going to get one,

 By: Thomas_3 : April 4th, 2022-20:28
just need to find a dealer with one in stock, that seems to be a challenge recently.

I have purchased my last two from Cabelas. The last was a Rapide, Black Ice finish.

 By: doubleup : April 4th, 2022-20:39
Those were selling for $750 over MSRP on gun broker and they even gave another $100 off for black Friday. They usually get a decent selection of Kimber regularly and for me at least, they seem to come through often without having to wait 6-9 months orderi...

Cabela's and Bass Pro (one in the same now) are both out of stock.

 By: Thomas_3 : April 4th, 2022-20:51
I'll keep checking. I looked at the Raptor Ultra Carry but can't justify the price difference.

Ahh...Cabelas

 By: destrodan : April 4th, 2022-20:53
...love visiting their gun library (lots of great historical references). Whenever I make it over to Tahoe from the Bay Area I'm sure to make a pit-stop at Cabelas in Reno. Wish we had a closer location in CA.

Exactly.

 By: InHavenPro : April 4th, 2022-21:49
My brother, however, is likely to move to that area this summer, so I'll have someone to ask for stuff whenever I feel like it . Cheers, Filip

Ha! Nice! :-)

Oh,

 By: InHavenPro : April 4th, 2022-21:44
The reason I ended up with a Kimber instead of a Springfield iss exactly due to massive stock shortages. I was stupid lucky they even had this on Buds gunshop online........

Yes.

Hand engraved, fitted and polished. These people have a very similar skillset to the watchmakers, the major difference is that they don't need to use tweezers most of the time . Cheers, Filip

:)))

Thanks!! Filip

Standing by for range report =)

 By: doubleup : April 4th, 2022-20:32
JK, I know that will be a smooth shooter for sure. I love 1911's, almost had it in my avatar name back in the day LOL

Well,

 By: InHavenPro : April 4th, 2022-21:47
I'll put an additional 1200 or so rounds through it in the next five or six weeks so that will make for as good a test as any........

100%!

Cheers, Filip

The grips are the latest....

 By: InHavenPro : April 5th, 2022-01:52
iteration (#3) of VZ's flagship 1911 grip. They are truly excellent, and frankly quite aggressive in texture. Your weight question is one that I have myself, unfortunately I do not have a scale at home, so I'll make an attempt to measure it at work later ...

Nice mods!

 By: TeutonicCarFan : April 4th, 2022-21:59
I have a 5" les baer and a 4.25" Dan Wesson. Both fun to shoot. Sadly in last 2 years they have been dormant. On my to do list for the upcoming months is to get some rounds through them. Ah, Stan Chen. I always wanted one but had no reason given I don't s...

I have to agree with you!

I always felt the need to actually use whatever it is I decide to put money into. It sits uncomfortably in the back of my mind if I have items (especially expensive ones) sitting someplace merely collecting dust. I've been pretty good in holding up to spe...

Is that an Alessi holster from Cheektowaga?

It can!!

As others have said,

 By: InHavenPro : April 5th, 2022-03:37
there's nothing else like them out there . Thanks for looking, Filip

I do not know much about guns either

 By: VinnieD : April 5th, 2022-08:11
but yours definitely looks the part. It looks like some of your mods were done with less weight as a target Newbie question: is lighter always better or is it always a question of finding the right weight balance, and takes your own strength/skill/taste i...

I, personally, think....

 By: InHavenPro : April 5th, 2022-15:58
it's almost always a question of balance. It has to feel right overall, weight is just one component in that equation. Cheers, Filip

LOL,

 By: InHavenPro : April 5th, 2022-16:03
I've never once heard of that term! And I read countless articles on top of listening to endless hours of interviews regarding firearms. I'd love to know myself what the intended meaning is there! Cheers, Filip

Good question. Googling it, I can see the term is used.

Someday, I'll buy a gun and get training, license, etc....

I wonder if....

 By: InHavenPro : April 5th, 2022-18:44
any other firearm enthusiast here knows about it already.... Jorge?? I'll look into it.... Cheers, Filip

¡Gracias!

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : April 5th, 2022-20:49

Accurized? Accuracy job? Back in the day before CNC you couldn't buy a nice (accurate) 1911, you pretty much had to have one built

 By: Fastwong : April 5th, 2022-21:09
Typical process was buy an off the shelf mil spec 1911, have a gunsmith hand fit a new barrel which meant filing and fitting the barrel lugs to the slide, new custom fit barrel bushing and link, and then also refit the slide to the frame which could invol...

Great summary....

from someone who has clearly been involved in shooting sports for decades. I, for one, certainly agree with your sentiments! Thanks, Filip

I see, thank you!

Is there a Rolex (or Omega) of 45s that I should start with in terms of easy to use, service, shoot, etc.? This would be a buy only once and keep type of thing, no rabbit holes sadly.

Springfield, Kimber,

 By: InHavenPro : April 6th, 2022-16:53
Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk. They all 'play' in comparable realms, the point is to simply look at the offering and select something that specifically speaks to your tastes ....

So many great options, I don't think anyone makes a bad 1911 but I would recommend buying the best you can from the start.

 By: Fastwong : April 6th, 2022-20:32
Ideally, if not built by hand, at least tuned by a human before it leaves the factory. There's a reason 1911's are expensive, they are a little bit of an antiquated design so they can be fiddly to get right, much more so than most other designs. Like InHa...

Excellent points :)

 By: InHavenPro : April 6th, 2022-20:44
Also, if you just feel like spending $5,000 on a 1911 straight off the bat, simply go to the Strayer Voigt INFINITY website and schedule yourself a nut-and-bolt build from scratch........ ...
