just need to find a dealer with one in stock, that seems to be a challenge recently.

Those were selling for $750 over MSRP on gun broker and they even gave another $100 off for black Friday. They usually get a decent selection of Kimber regularly and for me at least, they seem to come through often without having to wait 6-9 months orderi... 

I'll keep checking. I looked at the Raptor Ultra Carry but can't justify the price difference.

...love visiting their gun library (lots of great historical references). Whenever I make it over to Tahoe from the Bay Area I'm sure to make a pit-stop at Cabelas in Reno. Wish we had a closer location in CA.

The reason I ended up with a Kimber instead of a Springfield iss exactly due to massive stock shortages. I was stupid lucky they even had this on Buds gunshop online........

Hand engraved, fitted and polished. These people have a very similar skillset to the watchmakers, the major difference is that they don't need to use tweezers most of the time . Cheers, Filip

JK, I know that will be a smooth shooter for sure. I love 1911's, almost had it in my avatar name back in the day LOL

I'll put an additional 1200 or so rounds through it in the next five or six weeks so that will make for as good a test as any........

it's almost always a question of balance. It has to feel right overall, weight is just one component in that equation. Cheers, Filip

Typical process was buy an off the shelf mil spec 1911, have a gunsmith hand fit a new barrel which meant filing and fitting the barrel lugs to the slide, new custom fit barrel bushing and link, and then also refit the slide to the frame which could invol...

Is there a Rolex (or Omega) of 45s that I should start with in terms of easy to use, service, shoot, etc.? This would be a buy only once and keep type of thing, no rabbit holes sadly.

Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk. They all 'play' in comparable realms, the point is to simply look at the offering and select something that specifically speaks to your tastes ....

Ideally, if not built by hand, at least tuned by a human before it leaves the factory. There's a reason 1911's are expensive, they are a little bit of an antiquated design so they can be fiddly to get right, much more so than most other designs. Like InHa... 

Also, if you just feel like spending $5,000 on a 1911 straight off the bat, simply go to the Strayer Voigt INFINITY website and schedule yourself a nut-and-bolt build from scratch........ ...
