A little teaser...

Oct 11, 2009,18:16 PM

Apologies if this seems like a hijack but I just wanted to share a quick teaser of a few future shoe posts (after I am done with the Eating Carnivorously series).

Latest delivery from Gaziano & Girling.

My first bespoke shoe fitting by the maestro, Hidetaka Fukaya.

New shoes for the winter?

 By: Geo : October 11th, 2009-01:14
Yesterday when I walked in my neighborhood, not even in the center, I saw a pair of shoes in the window of a fashion boutique, that also happen to sell a few shoes. It's a nice boutique that sells brands like Brioni, Kiton, Scabal, Boglioli, Italo Ferrett...

I like'em

 By: Bruno.M1 : October 11th, 2009-02:09
bought these the last couple of weeks/months Considered as the Patek among the shoes ;-) John Lobb. I'm not a conaisseur of shoes so maybe this will sound stupid but imoe they are NOT worth the price the ask. They are ofcourse great shoes but I've bought ...

I'm not a connoisseur either

 By: Geo : October 11th, 2009-02:17
but I do like your John Lobbs a lot. I general I like the way Santoni shoes are made, just find the noses too narrow at the moment. I rather have a more classic nose, bit rounder. Thanks for the pics, your collection looks very good. GEO

Some thoughts

 By: SJX : October 11th, 2009-08:38
That's a nice collection of shoes Bruno. Lobb shoes are slightly better constructed than C&J, for example the bevelling and finishing of the sole. Lobb also uses slightly finer leather with better antiquing (the variegated colour of the leather). That bei...

you're probably right that Lobb uses better leather and the 'finishing' is about the best you can get. But like said I'm not a shoe WIS and therefore I barely see these differences. The only thing I feel is the way they fit my feet ;-) and those Crockett ...

Church's

mine are still very wearable, but are too tight for me now. i think i'll give them to a charity shop and let someone else have the benefit.

I've got my eye on the same pair about two months ago but decided to go with several other pairs. I love the pattern on this and the seamless back makes it a real winner. The design is unique, if not, signature to the great work that JLP does. The colour ...

Hello GEO!

Hello GEO, Congrats on the Trickers! Have you tried on any Kiton shoes? -MW

Trickers are an old UK company on a level with Crockett & Jones

 By: G99 : October 11th, 2009-12:41
i have a pair of trickers black brogues that i bought about 25 years ago. i bought them from a charity shop for £5.00 as i was very poor then, but i've worn them as my best shoes for 25 years and had them resoled twice. no idea how old they really are, bu...

both Trickers and C&J are manufacturers in Northampton and not Nottingham. Pls correct me if mistaken. Beautiful shoes btw!

your quite right KT, long day, tired, brain in neutral, my error. i was taught all bout it at school and often see it on TV, but still get it wrong. Northampton is indeed the shoe capital of the UK and at one time the world. best Graham

Thanks very much for your comments gentelemen.

Interesting to hear the story behind the brand, so in fact England is quite a shoemarket, I now learn. Never thought about that. The shop stocks Kiton as a brand as well, but not the shoes. GEO

Not charity shop Graham, put them on Collector's Market

 By: G99 : October 13th, 2009-01:40
thats an idea Mike, but i doubt many would want used shoes. its not something i would normally buy, but these were a different proposition in different times. UK size 9, EU size 43 whatever that is in US sizing. best G

That's a steal as far I know eventhough it's 25 years ago.

Where can you find Good English made shoes for 5 pounds now? Even given the inflation. You got a GREAT deal Graham. cheers PAt

here you go patrick, a pic of my Loakes and Alfred Sergeants. the Loakes are made of much stiffer leather than the others, but both clean up nicely with a glossy shine. i had to use my old army training on the black ones as they were quite matt to start w...

Looking good Graham!

I have been thru Army and sure knows what you mean on how it takes to make it "spit shine". Enjoy the boots. cheers! PAt

Beautiful saddle shoes...

 By: Gaz : October 11th, 2009-17:46
The leather combination makes this a stand out pair. Trickers are an awesome brand, although they are more known for the chunky and very round full brogue oxfords. These are casually elegant and will work well with jeans, casual pants and informal work we...

Shoes for the winter?

 By: anaesdoc : October 12th, 2009-21:47
Hi GEO, I do not dislike your shoes and all those proposed by other forumners - but are these really fulfilling the needs of the winter season? Or do you live on the southern hemisphere and your "winter" actually means "summer"? Those refined, valuable le...

You're absolutely right

 By: Geo : October 12th, 2009-22:41
Our winters are so mild. These shoes are not made for ice and snow like we know from Canada. I live most of the time in the south part of Europe, where it never really gets that cold. GEO

Heck, we wear boots...
