With a month until the big race, I've got Indy on the mind and on my wrist!

In anticipation of next month's Indy 500, I strapped on my Carrera Heuer 01 101st Indy 500 LE for a day in the sun. It's great to have such a strongly themed piece while attending a local car show. In fact, I was invited as one of the judges this year. When the judging was done, I took the opportunity to grab a few shots.

As much as I love the domed crystal of the Heuer 01s, they make photography a challenge by catching reflections from almost any angle. I consider this part of the "personality" of the Heuer 01, however. They don't just give up an image to every looky loo with a camera phone, they make you work for every image.

Challenge accepted. Even if not every photo is perfect, it's worth effort, this Drive Timer exudes character and details.

Few watches look as sporty and represent motorsports as effectively as the Heuer 01s.

I especially love the strap on this Carrera Drive Timer. Overall, even at 45mm, it's a surprisingly comfortable watch and wears well, even under cuff.

The complexity of the dial gives it a very "technical" look. The multitude of finishes and variety of materials throughout create a visually exciting piece at a quite reasonable price. In fact, I was impressed that TAG Heuer places little, if any premium on the price of the Heuer 01 Limited Editions. It's exclusivity for the rest of us!

Under the hood, the Carrera looks perfectly at home; proof that motorsports are in its DNA.

As a gearhead, I get a little giddy every time I wear one of my Heuer 01 Indys. If a watch is an extension of the personality, this watch is ME!

After a year of ownership, I love absolutely EVERYTHING about the 101st Indy watch. I think TAG Heuer took this theme a step further with this years Indy 500 Heuer 01 and I hope to do a review on one in the coming weeks.

Bring on the billet!

It's been a few weeks since I've worn this piece, so today was like reuniting with an old friend.

From every angle, the Heuer 01 reveals depth and details that make this an exciting piece!

With only 101 produced,  the 101st Indy Heuer 01 has long since sold out. Fortunately, TAG Heuer released a non-LE version of this Drive Timer without the Indy theme. Same colors, same strap and "almost" as cool as the Indy version. If you like racing, or any motorsports for that matter, this is certainly a piece worthy of serious consideration.

I'm looking forward to the arrival of my 102nd Indy 500 Heuer 01, but the 101st will always have a special place in my heart and in my collection.

Finally, a special thanks to Bob Jarrett who patiently allowed me to use his vintage (1973?) Camaro Z-28 as a prop. Of all the cars at today's show, there was something about his classic muscle car, spiced up with a Corvette LS engine that just sang to me. It was Americana at its finest, with a touch of attitude mixed in. Such a gorgeous car. Next time I run into Bob, I'll grab some pics for the automotive forum. Until then, cheers!

I'm kicking myself for getting in a hurry and not getting photos of just the car. Hopefully he'll be in other local shows so I can grab some pics.

A small local show
