As Summer Comes to an End -- Hodinkee Limited Edition Skipper
Sep 02, 2020,07:52 AM
Last night, I took some photos of the Hodinkee Limited Edition Skipper, from June 2017.
This was a limited edition of 125 watches, that was based on the very first Skipper from 1968. With the LE, TAG Heuer took some liberties, which seem appropriate to me -- 30 minute register instead of 15 minute countdown and addition of the date function. The colors are very close to the ones used in 1968 and you can see the amazing starburst / metallic blue paint.
See more of the original Skipperreras in the OnTheDash Gallery of Skipperreras -- http://www.onthedash.com/chronograph/skipper-ref-7754/.
And here's my deep dive into the history of the Skipper -- http://www.onthedash.com/heuer-history-the-voyage-of-the-skipper/
Wishing everyone a wonderful last few days of summer!!

I like it a lot. One day I must get a funky coloured piece like this.
That Looks Really Nice

So many of these vintage Skipperreras have heavy damage to the blue paint . . . this one seems to be a survivor!!
Difference in Watches / Prices

. . . and with the asking prices of the original Skipperreras ranging from $60,000 to $110,000 in today's market, the Hodinkee Limited Edition offers in interesting alternative to get the colors of the original at a more reasonable price.
