Second anniversary of Chuck Maddox Passing....

May 12, 2010,04:57 AM

Hello everyone... I just wanted to post a note that today is the second anniversary of Chuck Maddox passing. In his memory I am wearing my Omega Chrono Diver and thinking of him. I posted about the Chuck Maddox Chrono Diver here about a month ago... I am including it here as well. ...
Its been two years since I lost my close friend Chuck passed away.  For almost the last fifteen years we talked at lest once a day (more like 4 times a day and for long periods of time).   Looking back now I really miss talking with him.  I would always ask Chuck  " Any action ? "..... The action was that he bought a watch or strap or book etc...  We always talked about getting that grail watch...  at one time for Chuck  it was a white dial tu-tonic 861 that he called "Moby Dick" , I was hunting after two Omegas at that time a Chronometre DeBord and that White dial Railmaster. that I lost at auction...  a few years later we both caught what we where hunting for.  Then Chuck bought a typical modern Omega at the time a Seamaster Chrono Diver in Ti powered by a 7750 chronometer certified chronograph.  So when I called him and asked that standard question " Any action ? "  well I got an ear full.  "Bill , wear big but light as a feather.... readable and the pushers ever work under water !! "  Ever since then Chuck and I would talk like what do you want to get next .....  Chuck would always remind me about looking and trying a TI Seamaster Chrono Diver.  Lets just say it would be rare for me to buy a modern Omega ( I did buy a limited Edition Co-ax back in 99 ) but that is it.  Like I mention before Chuck really loved that Ti chrono diver.  He always would wear it in rotation.  So now back to a few weeks ago I walked into a jewelery store near me and they had a "pre-owned" one in the store.  Once I saw it I jogged my memory of Chuck and what he always said about that watch.  I asked to try it on and it was very very nice , except for it being a link short.   I tried working out a deal but we could not have a meeting of the minds.  I then kept an eye out on the net for a example and missed one oh well will keep trying.   One day I gave a call to a watch buyer I know who just bought out a collection I asked what was in it... he said "Oh Bill its not stuff you like all modern stuff some Rolexs, Movados, Rolexs and big Omega " .  I asked what Omega it was and sure enough was a Seamaster Chrono Diver in Ti with box and papers.  I told him I would take it .  I do not even have it on my wrist yet but I know Chuck is saying " I told you so !! " ... and smiling.

I present to you here the real Chuck Maddox Homage watch..  Seamaster Professional ChronoDiver in Ti

Good Hunting

And for this nice story. Can I just add that the magic of Internet is that even if Chuck passed away, he's still here with us... On the net, and in the Hearts! Best, Nicolas

One of the earliest topics I discussed with Chuck was my Speedmaster Mark II with this same dial as yours. I was silly enough that at one time I asked him about the meaning of "Mark" designation. He included the answer to that very question in his blog po...

Amazing that 2 years have passed! To his credit, I can't think of any other watch forum participant who has left such a legacy. Never a watch industry shill or self-aggrandizing personality(well, he did have a few opinions ), Chuck was one of the good guy...
