TAG Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 8 RS Grande-Date GMT (Singapore Limited Edition)
Aug 06, 2008,12:06 PM
Took some pictures of the Calibre 8 RS ( rotating system) Grande-Date
GMT (Singapore Limited Edition) which was announced last week.
This LE version of 150 pcs only is to commemorate next month Singapore Grand Prix and the world first night race.
(To read the press release please click here )
This piece is a working prototype, and nothing beats seeing the real piece .
Here we go .........
The colour scheme is British Racing Green. It is also one of the corporate colour of Tag Heuer.
The main point for the green colour theme is 'get away' from the typical red.
Besides the second hand and the GMT marker are green, the straps are dark green with green stiching too. Pretty nice.
The dark dial and bezel are supposedly to signify night ( as it will be a night race
)
The 42.5 mm diameter SS case is well-made.
The bezel could be PVD...yet to be verifed.
Screw down crown (with crown protector), and it is for adjustment of the time and dates. When crown is out, the movement hacks.
The strap-ends are shaped to seamlessly meet the casing thus leaving no gap between the lugs and the straps
when worn. See wrist-shots below.
The Rotating GMT(2nd time zone) System is at the 6'o clock position.
Understand the RS range is adopting some areas of haute-horlogerie finishing...
1. All surface are fine-brushed finished except for the subtle high gloss curved facetted horns (4 lug areas). A very well-finished case!
2. The curved faceted hour-markers with double finishings and
3. The hand-applied grand date window is well finished.
The chapter ring on the dial with spiral effect is not visible in my pictures.
A beautiful view from the Tag Heuer office. However too high to view the race...could use binoculars though.
Côtes de Genève on the rotor, screw and polished beveling and perlage on the bridges.
However on the see-through sapphire, the centre split portion with the Tag Heuer logo blocks the wheel...even without it,
the rotor still obstructs.
Perhaps the caseback symbolises something related to car, like the dashboard or even a speedometer.
I'm guessing here.
COSC-certified automatic movement Calibre 8RS.
Water resistance to 100m.
Deployant buckle with push-button release.
Double AR coated sapphire.
Several wrist-shots ....
On a lady's wrist. Thanks Fiona
On a gentleman's wrist ...thanks Alvin
It sits well on the wrist and looks good.
Take a look at the work and try it on next month when it launches... you may be in for a surprise.
