When big is grand, in spite of not having it in its name - the Seiko Izul SDAA001 π―π΅
Made as a tribute to the Olympic chronographs of Seiko from 1964 and as a launch platform for the new Spring Drive chronograph movement, the Izul was a piece of the pre-crash exuberance. With four references (two in 51mm and two in 47mm) for the JDM and the Paris Boutique, in hindsight it should be obvious that it would not be an easy sell. But after they were gone from the stores the desirability as one of the really rare modern Seikoβs raised their profile (probably more than for the also relatively rare Galante).
Still, the case size was not a design elephantiasis decision but a requirement to fit the fully articulated watch case, allowing a rotation to any angle you desire, as well as separate angles for telling the time and for using it as a bullheaded chronograph. And the number of handsβ¦
Probably my favorite Seiko still, and the result of a six year search - and then it found me (not me it) π
