Seiko Piot Watch from WW II, Onion Crown.

If I had to own one Seiko, that would definitely be this one.

Seiko 47 mm case, manual movement, onion crown, for the WW II Japanese Pilots:

Pictures shamelessly stolen to Ebay.

How delicious is this one.

Which surprised me is how close it is to the Longines Big Weems, which was also used by the Japanese Pilots.

I have zero information or knowledge about this Seiko,  but it is a breathtaking one, for sure.

Best,

Nicolas

Never seen one of these before - thanks for posting it! Maybe a silly question but this is a Japanese WW2 piece and yet the movement has labeling in English (15 jewels). Was there a point in time when this became semi-universal?

Looks like it's missing...

the internal bezel. This model should come with internal rotating bezel IIRC. I had its replica which came in much smaller size.

Here is the replica (not made by SEIKO): Side by side with the original: ...

I am trying to learn more about these. So, I cannot answer you, but...

I am also curious as to why no seconds hand on a Pilot's watch.

Good point. The Longines is close to this one, but has a second hand.

I am eagerly willing to know more about it, too. Best, Nicolas

It should have one...

...I am no expert on these, but as nikidasi noted, it is missing the internal bezel, the dial looks refinished and hasn't had lume reapplied, the movement looks suspect and the hands are incorrect (too long!)

There's a lot of history in that pilot watch.
