Seiko 5 Sports SRPD76 mini review
May 23, 2020,08:03 AM
Seiko relaunched the Seiko 5 Sports collection towards the end of last year, with a multitude of options. I was stuck at home due to the pandemic, the weather was getting hotter, and I was wearing my good old SKX009 a lot.
I then came across the new SRPD76 (or SRPD76k1), which was similar to my good old SKX009, but with a gold PVD case. It was affordable, and looked quite fun with the PVD case (all my Seiko divers are in regular SS), so I ordered one from a local dealer.
It arrived in 3 days, and I really liked the contrast of the gold PVD against the black.
The Seiko strap however was a slightly weird rubber strap embossed
with a crocodile leather pattern (I know!). Seiko straps aren't great,
so I ordered a fitted curved-end rubber strap from another local strap company,
and it worked out well. It was very comfortable and was impregnated with some vanilla fragrance, a nice touch. Love it!
The new Seiko 5's have the advantage of being hackable, and windable, compared to the older SKX's. The water resistance is 100m for the new Seiko 5's though. I'm not planning to dive with this watch anytime, but it's good for a swim, for getting wet, and for the summer! It fits well on the wrist, and is balanced better with the new rubber strap (vs the old one).
As always, Seikos offer great value for money, and I can definitely see myself wearing this a lot through the pandemic and through summer. Good fun!
