MORE about the Presage

A few more pictures from my iPhone. The strap has silver stitching at the top -- I never noticed that stitching before today - it's quite subtle.
The dial is astonishingly BLACK and REFLECTIVE, as you can see in this image. The numerals reflect off the inside of the crystal and back onto the dial, then back out to our eyes. And yes, it is brutal when it comes to dust specs - I cleaned the crystal 3 times before getting this nice a photo.
The hands are creamy white except for the sweep seconds which is silver and red. The leaf shape of the minute and hour hands is mirrored in the running seconds at 3 o'clock. A tiny window at 4 exposes the date whose wheel is matte -- at least it is rough compared to the Urushi lacquer dial.
As you can see below, the numerals and indices are actually silver, not white as the appear above. That is except for the tiny red block at 60 above 12 o'clock. A nice touch.
The 8R48A movement is ok, nothing special in its finishing except the gold-colored rotor. It's 28.6 mm diameter and 7.6 mm thick, runs at 8 beats (28,800 per hour).
Seiko claimes a modest +/- 10 seconds a day at rest, dial upwards, with a running time of about 45 hours.
The same movement is used in the recent Presage "70's vintage" looking chrono
Whereas this Presage has a more traditional look. Besides the thickness, my one complaint is the crown's got some rough edges on it, and it annoys me when I wind it. So the remedy is either take some emery cloth to the crown or wear it so often I don't have to wind it. So far I've done neither, and remain slightly annoyed.
Overall I like the watch a lot, but it's not the most-often sought after when I need a black-dialed chrono ... I have 9 others to choose from.
Cheers,
