Admittedly I'm a relative newcomer to this world. I'm now in my fourth year of really paying attention to timepieces. So I know some things, but realize there are significant gaps in my knowledge. Which brings me to the subject of: to polish, or not to polish.
I suppose this discussion can be divided into two parts, one of which pertains to vintage pieces that derive a significant part of their market value from the fact that they look like they've been worn (though counterfeiters can just as easily fake case use as they can repaint a dial). But the other, it seems to me, concerns modern pieces. Are we who wish to have a certain piece and find one five or ten or fifteen years old really reassured by dings and hairlines that the watch is authentic? Do we delight in wearing another man's carelessness? Or, being so happy to at last possess what we've long wanted, would we actually rather have that Grand Seiko zaratsu polished again to bring it back to its former glory?
From what I read on this and other forums it would seem that no one out there EVER polishes a watch! Is that true? OK if it is, but some discussion of this subject would help me understand the matter better.

I think your analysis is pretty much spot on. I have another Presage Seiko & it's almost exactly the same other than the dial - the premium for the urushi dial was almost 100%. Which I was more than ok with. I think some of the newer ones are starting to ...

After all,it's the dial that attracts our initial attention,and coupled with a reasonable movement or function like date,power reserve,is a winning strategy. However, i think you can overdo a good thing,and as they flood the market with more 'interesting'...

Hi Well they're not battle scars in truest sense, just a myriad of little scratches that come with wearing a watch - if you want it to be pristine, don't wear it , but that's no fun. So would I get it polished - I think so, to bring it back to how it was....
