I'm always happy when I revive a watch and save it from the scrap heap

especially one that I have had for awhile, like this modest Seiko (with a story)
I was in my IWC phase of collecting, and came across a hexagonal case model that looked like it would be fun. Here's an old version:
and here's the just-released modern one I had my eye on, model IW546101.
I went down to look at it, but the price made me wonder -- would I like this, or would I be sorry? They weren't flying off the shelf, it has that unfortunate proprietary IWC strap format ... so I thought about it for awhile and did an Internet search for "hexagonal watches".
The Seiko popped up immedately and it was 95% less expensive AND it has a light that illuminates the dial when you press the crown:
So realizing it's not the same thing quality or movement-wise, I bought the Seiko, forgot the IWC and here we are 10 years later.
The IWCs are still available New-Old-Stock for $4150, my Seiko's now working again after a few months dead in the drawer, and the $7k I saved has grown (so says the compound interest calculator) to $12,895 (which I have spent on other watches).
I think we'll have champagne with our eggs this morning... once I get around to making the breakfast.
