Great story, well illustrated, on-going -- I love it!

Hi Fred,
I've stayed in the Coply Plaza Hotel too, but a few years earlier than you, when my employer sent me off to New England for about a month of typography training in Boston and Manchester.
Nice watch, too. It suits the purpose, and your occupation. And they last almost forever.
I'm working on one now for a pal - his has a different movement but looks slightly like yours and is from the same era but with second hand.
I told him the movement was fried and Seiko hasn't made parts for 20 years. He said "Fix it anyway, it's a momento of my earlier life" (and former wife).
So I found a used good (like new) watch on eBay for $75 with the same movement, it flew in from Japan this week and is here on my table.
I'll do the swap once I get the sick watch back from him, and I'll send you a picture of it.
I think you made out better on this deal, since you still have the watch and your wife. Those Norwegian women are tough, and worth keeping around for the long haul.
Cheers,
Mike
