I don't have a watch with a crown at 4 so I don't understand why the crown position is a deal breaker for you.
Maybe you should try one for yourself?

I have two reasons. One is I find it awkward to wind or make adjustments with a crown that's so close to a lug especially if one is still wearing the watch. The other reason is purely aesthetic. I just don't care for the looks.

I guess that's a good a reason as any other to buy another watch. I figured it was partly functional. I usually take my watches off to set them but what you said makes sense.

I ask because I have an old Orange Monster with the older 7s26, non-hacking movement. Keeps good time on the wrist but extreme positional variation (-20 in one position, +8 in another).
