An Alpinist in Rajasthan

Dec 08, 2018,02:39 AM

The Seiko Alpinist in green (SARB017) is a quirky watch. With a deep green dial and gold numerals, it can come off dressy, even though it was designed for mountaineering (hence the name).

I recently took mine to a tour of Rajasthan, India, where it served me really well, especially when swapped onto a bracelet for the hot weather.

Whether exploring old forts...

Or doing zip-lining ...

Or viewing the desert sunset on a camel...

... the Alpinist held up so well.

Even after our adventures were over, and it was time to take a dip in the resort pool, the Alpinist took to the waters happily...

You can see the stones at the side of the pool. You should've seen the look on my wife's face when I arranged the red-brown stones for a Static Shot!

But I think it was worth it smile  The green dial contrasted well with the red stones.

I was very happy to have brought this watch along - it's a pity it's no longer in producton, as it's very versatile and resilient watch for all sorts of environments.

...a really nice one indeed 👍🏻 I didn‘t know this model.

This is legendary as with the SARB 033

Discontinued Japan-only models with a cult following.

Nice Seiko - green and gold dial works really well

Very versatile watch. Doesn't look like a diver, but has 200m water resistance. Cheers JML

Beautifully made watch

I felt like you were reliving the classic movie "The Man Who Would be King" with Sean Connery and Michael Caine. Coming back down to earth, I had an Alpinist once, back a decade or so ago. This photo is dated 2005. I can't remember what happened to it ......

Thanks erict, jml_watches, watchlover78, and cazalea!

Wow, the movie sounds like an interesting one... one which I've never watched! Will check it out, tks! (and nice Alpnist, Cazalea!)

Was written by Rudyard Kipling; the movie was directed by John Huston and won an Academy Award. Peachy & Daniel vow to forego womanizing They meet a woman - Daniel wants to marry her (who wouldn’t) Later (in real life) Michael Caine does marry her. Great ...

Lovely and solid alpinist

Is it the SARB033 bracelet?
