An accidental purchase!
Yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, I decided to drop by at a mall for the first time since the eleven week lockdown and instead of the usual visit to a Swiss watch boutique or an authorised dealer, I decided to visit the Seiko boutique. I was trying on a few of the Presage and Grand Seiko watches when the salesman decided to bring out the recently arrived SBGY007. A friend of mine had been singing praises of this watch but I am one who would not fall for a pretty face in a photo. However, I was swept off my feet when I set eyes on this beauty; yes guys, it was love at first sight! That does not happen to me with most watches so I decided to do the rational thing and leave the boutique and return home for a ponder. Within 30 minutes of me arriving home, I told myself this watch was a no brainer and it was arguably the most beautiful Grand Seiko I had ever seen with its hammered light blue dial. I happen to be a sucker for accurate watches so the spring drive movement with a monthly tolerance of 15 seconds seemed about right. The fact that the watch wore thin was an added bonus as Grand Seikos used to be on the thick side for me. I have since collected the watch today!

In a way I also bought this to take my attention away from the launch of the new Kurono which I am sceptical that I will receive an allocation for. So instead of consoling myself with a purchase after being rejected, I decided to do it in advance!!

but this GS is playing at a different level in my opinion. Do let me know if you are allocated a Kurono my friend. I will do likewsie.

I have learned one thing about watches
never say never! If it is any consolation, I have kept them in their original plastic wrappings and wind them daily (the watch and pocket watch set) so you will be getting new unworn watches!

I also like the fact that this spring drive movement is manual winding rather than an automatic which keeps the watch thin.

Before I buy anything
I always ask myself what else could I get of equal quality for the same amount of money. In the case of this watch, the answer was simple - nothing!

After having seen so many dark blue dials
it is refreshing to see a light blue dial that is hammered. The dial gives this watch its character.
