All Is (Not) Lost

Just finished watching Robert Redford's 2013 film All Is Lost over the weekend wherein the Seiko SKX175/009 dive watch plays a prominent role.  Redford's character, only known as Our Man in the film's ending credits wears the Seiko on his right wrist throughout the entire movie and it is displayed prominently in almost every scene.  Now that's what I call product placement!  The strange thing is during the ending credits I don't see any mention of Seiko in the list of products used in the film.  Does anyone know why that is?

Whoever the propmaster was also seems to know current trends for watch aficionados as the SKX175 (North American reference) normally comes on a "jubilee-style" bracelet, while the SKX009 (International reference) is sold with a Seiko OEM wave-type rubber strap, but Redford's watch is fitted with a blue NATO G-10 strap.

This was an entertaining movie with a very tight plot and storyline.  All the "fat" normally found in Hollywood films was cut out, which I appreciate.  I won't spoil the ending for you if haven't seen it, but I do recommend All Is Lost to this group.

Here are a few screen shots from the film showing Redford wearing the Seiko diver.

Our Man trying to get his wireless radio to work again.

Our Man taking a "shower" during a light rain.

Action shot of the Seiko SKX175/009 in its native element!  Not the place Our Man wanted to be in obviously.

Picture below is that of my own Seiko SKX009.

I know about it but didn’t really know the exact model number. Thanks for that info! I may have seen bits and pieces of this movie. I vaguely remember how it ends Best, Echi

The watch can be had easily for under $200

The movie ends at just the right moment IMHO. I think it adds to its charm.
