A visit to the Seiko Boutique in the Sunway Pyramid shopping mall
Malaysia is known for its vast selection of Seiko boutiques and dealers offering a whole range of Seiko’s watches from low end to Grand Seiko. The importer in Malaysia has two owned Seiko boutiques of which one is located in the Sunway Pyramid shopping mall. Many of the Seiko watches are being produced outside Japan and many of them in Malaysia. It is however a well kept secret which ones exactly but models ending with “K1” are often produced here (although no official confirmation can be given). Besides a nice selection of watches it is no secret that many Seiko’s are considerably cheaper here compared to other markets and on top of that they throw easily discounts.
And once you are bored you can take a spin on the ice skating ring. Pretty amazing knowing daily temperatures in Malaysia go up to 35C.
3 models caught my attention and the shop manager was so kind to take them out for pictures and a wrist experience.
The 2 limited editions Seiko Prospex for the 40th Anniversary of Gundam Japan are really quite something. At first the price really startled me but the built quality is impressive to say the least and so is the wrist presence. Not your regular watch but perfectly executed. I almost pulled the trigger and I guess now back home, I should have. These were the last two remaining in Malaysia and since these were meant to be exclusive for Japan only...I guess this was an opportunity.
I was hoping to score the SPB093 or SPB095 but stocks haven’t arrived here yet. So next up was the Seiko Presage ref SPB085. A truly impressive, rather expensive, Presage. The dial is awesome and the execution of the different laquer techniques in this price category is mindblowing. The Japanese are truly artisans. I totally forgot to take pictures so I took the liberty to add a picture from Fratello watches (hope they don’t mind).
