Credor Chronometer

As requested, a few photos of this old, accurate and obscure watch:

I bought two watches from Japan at the same time. Of course, the Fedex man came, left a note and I had to go get the package at the depot. I was so excited I had to open things up in the car!

I'm going to paraphrase another source, Musings of a Watch Addict, a guy who collects 4S movements:

"Functionally, the 4s29 and 4s79 are very similar movements, both being handwinding only, with subsidiary seconds hand located at the 6 o’clock sub-dial and with a power reserve complication located at the 9 o’clock position. These movements have no day or date. The typical Credor 4s79 movement is rated to +15/-10 sec/day. The movement is gold plated high grade, and has 31 jewels compared to the 4s29 movement with only 29 jewels. A batch of 500 GBAY992 yellow gold and 20 GZAY999 white gold watches are the only 4s79 models in recent Seiko history (1980s-on) to be certified “Chronometer” and labelled as such at the 3 o’clock position. These are also the only 4s79 movement watches with a display case back."

You can search around and find more, but this is the gist of the watch.

Cheers,

Cazalea

. . . can appreciate, especially yours truly. Your Credor was very high on my acquisition list at one time. It ticks all the relevant boxes, and then some. Is the 4S79A a hacking movement? And what's the additional shock protection for? Art

Hacking - yes

And I don’t mean hacking like a smoker, but stopping the second hand when the crown is pulled out for adjustment. As to why those two jewels have springs, I can’t say. I’ll look into it. Thanks Art

Thank you, Mike! And little wonder you couldn't wait! Gad!

I especially love the skeleton's "shooting star" bridges so obvious from the open back. Whoa… But it is the other watch that is more my cup of tea. And to understand the rarity of the movement, etc., etc. a real pleasure. Those little dots around the base...

Beautiful! [nt]
