A surprising difference

Despite wide price differences in GS watches, I would expect the finishing to be more similar.  Especially disappointing since I'm considering adding the SBGW231, though I doubt this roughness would be visible to the nake eye.

Not all GS are born the same

For the sub-$10k category.....Quite a big difference in hand finishing between sbgw231 vs sbgy003 ...

That’s telling!

:)

The hands on top don't look too good...

 By: mdg : March 6th, 2021-08:46
...maybe they can't be seen with the eye, but it looks like grounds for a return.

Can’t see with naked eyes

But it’s normal for these hands on this model

Yes. Looks a bit rough 👎

;)

Big difference indeed!

Although both are "sub-$10k" there is a considerable difference in price. Still, disappointing. Kent

Yes almost 2x in price

 By: mj23 : March 6th, 2021-12:22
But the finishing difference is still quite big

Indeed!

I regard photos like yours as a public service.

Thanks!

Wow that is REVEALING!

Ya exactly

Their PT model has a huge premium

A surprising difference

231 is still a great watch

The details here can’t really be seen with naked eyes

Thats indeed a big difference

 By: Watchonthewrists : March 6th, 2021-10:53

Yes :)

 By: mj23 : March 6th, 2021-11:00

it is good thing with better macros' now we're able to see the detail that eyes can't view - it shows the 'real value' as a consumer.

not to say right or wrong...but even some prestigious houses don't finish the bottom side of the hands ! that's on a 25k+ category I'm talking about... Best, mahesh.,

Wow, big difference

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : March 6th, 2021-11:41

Indeed

 By: mj23 : March 6th, 2021-12:24

I’m wondering if this difference exists throughout the collection when comparing this two price points.

The SBGY003 is a watch I like a lot, but I’ve been waiting on different dials to be released. Size, case, simplicity are all there so hopefully we’ll see something else in terms of dial choice. I do like the gold versions but I won’t go beyond steel on th...

I think there is some inconsistency

Like their quartz are cheaper and have better finished hands. Maybe due to different manufacturers for hands.

GS makes all their own hands

 By: cazalea : March 7th, 2021-16:10
At least from what I have seen and been told Cazalea

Yes, I heard they make their own hands too

 By: mj23 : March 10th, 2021-12:01
but I meant I also heard different hands are made by different Seiko divisions, thus the difference in finishing..

not sure i'd call that sub par finishing for a 4k watch

 By: Dchang81 : March 6th, 2021-13:25
check out the SLA033 if you want to see rough hands in a 4k watch

It’s fine for a 4K watch

Just showing the big difference when the price gap is not that much

Oh wow

 By: Horology75 : March 6th, 2021-13:28

Big difference

 By: mj23 : March 6th, 2021-16:10

GS is not the only one

Sorry for naming Longines in a GS forum part. mj23 have a good point. I own two Longines watches from the late 2016 - 2021, and there is a difference in finishing. Remarkable is that brand expectation is no guarantee all watches will have the same high le...

Glad you checked yours. :)

The thing is depends on the types of Gs hands, they are finished differently which to me is odd and inconsistent

It’s actually quite common for this type of GS hands

 By: mj23 : March 7th, 2021-11:11
And GS has other types which have different levels of finishing

Yes totally is!

I took a stab at inspecting my SBGH263G

 By: stevet : March 8th, 2021-17:10
This watch retails in the $6k range, I believe...but can certainly be had for less. I think the hands look pretty good on this one! ...

Cool shot

 By: mj23 : March 8th, 2021-19:05
For this type of hands, the finishing is better. The sbgw231 hands in my photos are different.

Nice blue hands..
