The 16600 is quite the watch and was on my list. But I figure it had to be a sub. I tried out my friend’s 14060. I harass him from time to time..

What drew me in to the sub/SD aesthetic long before I started to warm towards the dial design..

Was the knurling on the bezel esp on the 4 digit ones.. and secondly the oyster bracelet.. And this I don’t like too much, the ceramic bezel But all in all a fantastic piece ...

Nice!

Over the weekend I had a chance to wear the watch off and on. I am noticing that the watch is much more wearable now - perhaps it took some time for acclimation. What was new is realising the protrusion of the case back which I don’t recall having or feel...

Perfect investment

It’s definitely the Bezel that sells the Submariner.

It's funny. I was never a Rolex fan and one day a client came in wearing a Sub.

And it was the dial that got me. I fell in love with the hands and the dial before the case. Two weeks later I bought an SD. 16600 (Not a fan of the cyclops.) All together though the Sub/SD is in my opinion, the most perfect iconic wristwatch ever made. T...

I\'m just coming around to appreciating the 5 digit sub aesthetic. Alas, not as easy to get a good specimen (full set) at a "reasonable" price.. but still possible if and when. If I get lucky on a 5 digit 2 liner, that would cap my sub hunt..

One non-ceramic to represent that bygone era of 40mms, aluminum bezels and one ceramic to represent their current path. I think none represents their progressive mindset more than the SD43.. that they acknowledge their past but also that there are no sacr...

so well said, I agree whole heartedly, except i prefer the 16600r sea dweller to the 14060 submariner 2 liner :

I sold my 2000 14060 original owner submariner full set, it looked ' homely' : a little bit thin, flat, etc the 16600 is perfection in proportions

They know how to play the “close but not quite” game..

We know you will hate the cyclops and the 43 size but we’ll make it up to you with a red line. Bastards

LOL, Hell yes!

Bezel knurling...

 By: CR : November 14th, 2020-06:54
I know what you mean, about the knurling. As is the case with vintage Rolex, the little grooves in the knurling have different shapes depending upon the era of the bezel's manufacture, and there are people who can tell you about such things. I was reading...

That’s a nice comparative shot. Personally I think the older references have better looking knurling especially when viewed together..

With their respective crowns and crown guards. I’m not knowledgeable enough to articulate differences but appreciative enough to spot their charm. I suppose those who come in late in the game like myself still get to savor the DNA with newer iterations. P...

How do you keep these things in such mint condition??

My Sub is with me most of the time...and it shows!
