Maybe through this competition ten years (and 15/20 years) ago I was able to walk in, pick a certain sub or Daytona and get that kind of percentage off MSRP. Not today anymore but at that time yes. I think some here will remember that e.g. the last Kermits were sold well below MRSP...
For the other comment of yours you are right; I was thinking of haute horlogerie when writing about aficionados but that was not correct. To me these Rolex steel models are not on the same HH level compared to other mentioned watches/brands.

Trio of Submariner, Daytona and GMT Master 2
By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : September 12th, 2020-05:51
Finally I have completed the steel sports watch trio I wanted. Submariner “Kermit” ceramic, Daytona “Panda”, GMT Master 2 “Pepsi”. I was too late to get the Hulk before it was discontinued but am very grateful to have received the new Kermit earlier this ...
Congrats again Robin

How does the new green sub wear on the wrist ? Does it wear slightly larger versus the hulk or even the gmt you own?
I think they wear about the same
By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : September 12th, 2020-06:13
The Daytona wears a bit smaller. Ceramic 41mm Kermit, 40mm sub-c of Pepsi wear around the same to me Thanks again !

Thank you mate!

Yes sick and tired of the Richemonts, Swatch, LVMH brands with their LEs after LEs (yet less demand and poor value each time lol). Rolex doesn’t need any LEs yet have such huge demand . Clearly they are doing it right and I respect that ! The difference b...
I’m with you, struck all the chords mate...

Similar with me, I used to think “everyone” or almost too many, Singapore “uncles” , “A-longs”, wear Rolex and missing out on the fine prestigious brands of traditional watch making with nice movements etc....😂 My first Rolex is the Cellini Prince, becaus...
Lol can’t deny the uncles

Still having their Rolexes :p And there are many fakes in Singapore haha :p Cheers Robin
In complete agreement with you!

I went trough the same circle, same as you got tired of all the worries of high horology( I still admire them, but no need to own them). Rolex=throw it on the wrist and go... Nice trio, congratulations!
Nice small collection although I prefer the predecessors of each
By: penfriend : September 12th, 2020-07:31
However, to comment on Rolex "doing it right" - some ten years ago I was still able to collect subs and daytonas at my AD with 25-30% off MRSP. Since then they have not really changed their business policy but market has gone crazy. I don't wear my Rolex ...

Rolex is below these HH brands in movement finishing for sure

Especially when compared to indie brands like Dufour, KV, Laurent Ferrier, Hajime Asaoka (I’m still loving my new Tsunami!) , as well as below lange, PP, VC (at least those with geneva seals)
Good point !

There is no superior or inferior groups of watches and we have the right to love any watches Well said.
Indeed my friend

Their privately owned nature has some strengths when it comes to long term strategies instead of the pressures of delivering short term shareholder value
Very nice

I’ve been through the rolexes, and am moving into the speedmaster and haute horologie domains, but fully recognize that I’ll eventually circle back to Rolex. Enjoy yours in good health Btw: those PCLs on the daytona look pristine. Hope that that not becau...
Thank you ! Ah all 3 of these watches
By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : September 12th, 2020-17:29
Are fairly new and worn in rotation. The Kermit is a few days old, the Daytona less than 6 months and the Pepsi I recall I got it just before Christmas last year . Over time I am sure they will get some love marks lol
Thank you Nico !

... although I prefer the 116500 with a black dial, as well as the submariner ... I love black dials. Maybe that's why I like Rolex's professionals SS. There is only the YM that I like with its rhodium dial and again I think I would have taken it with a b...
I love black dials too

An offbeat and modern style watch for a professional Rolex. It has often been disparaged but I like this watch. Mine is coming soon ... Best
Congrats in advance !
