I’ve quite the same trio…

I’m linked to divers for a lot of reasons… and hove used some in curious areas…

I arrived late at Rolex and naturally started with a Submariner 114060. I was familiar with this watch but I stuck with it for a long time because of the (false) image conveyed. I was in HK, I was supposed to get a JLC but it had been sold. There were only Rolexes left… I was about to leave and my girlfriend at the time told me to try it. She knew how to convince, I listened to her and I put the sub on my wrist ... love at first sight. It did not have the charm of a JLC, not the warmth of the pieces made by la Grande Maison, but this watch exuded solidity and surgical precision. As soon as the sub left the store, it took its first bath on a beach well known to the locals, its first marks of life. I must admit that it spent a lot of time on my wrist, much more than my Tribute to Polaris which I adored however but which took water once during a dive (Plexidome split when there was no sign of a blow… Luckily, it was immediately opened and sent for service). Admittedly it did not follow me in the depths explored in the past, deep diving is now forbidden to me, but it made some pretty descents. It also accompanied me on a daily basis and bears the mark of an encounter with one of the hardest stones that nature has created ;-)

My second Rolex was a SD 116600. I like the extreme, the performance and the SD is a more technical, more exceptional and confidential Sub. Some blame it for the presence of a date. it is true that this complication is more useful outside of water than inside…. but … there is a bu… this is to forget that during very deep dives you always have to wait several days before regaining atmospheric pressure. Those who have had this type of experience know that the wait in the caisson is endless…. not to mention the place is often spartan. The date is then welcome and becomes a kind of star that one scrutinizes while awaiting his release. My history with the SD 116600 has been chaotic because I only wore it for a few hours. Bought at an airport, it only stayed on my wrist for a few hours, the time it took for a flight to get to Africa. The late arrival, the jet lag and the rush of a late wake up combined with the imperative need to arrive on time for my appointment on site were fatal for this watch … I left it on the hotels nightstand and it was no longer there when I returned. Even though I luckily got my money back, this bad experience stuck with this watch that I loved. However, I recently found one in NOS condition and cracked again. Despite one last little mishap (Maillon sticks out due to excess threadlock), I am now taking full advantage of it and she accompanied me all last summer to the ocean. What a presence, what a pleasure to wear. I admit I have hesitated with the 126600 because the presence of the legendary red inscription was tempting. Unfortunately despite its undeniable charm, its excessive size and the presence of the Cyclops made me turn away from it. I definitely prefer the SD 116600.

As an unconditional fan of diving watches and owner of the sub as well as a SD, how can I not be interested in the DSSD. I have looked around this watch for a long time. Isn't it too big, heavy to the point of being awkward? I have tried it several times, especially in its James Cameron version. I also hesitated between the 116660 and the 126660. Difficult choice especially when you can not see the different models at the same time. The first to be eliminated was the JC because with the arrival of other Rolexes I wanted to bring together all the modern professionals in black dials (I know I sometimes have weird ideas). So I still had to arbitrate between the 116660 and the 126660. I managed to try them together and that allowed me to decide: without hesitation the 116660 won. This is the first, it forms a coherent trio with the 114060 and the 116600, I much prefer its endlinks, which are however much criticized but which reinforce the massive side of the watch. Finally, its Oyster bracelet and its smaller buckle are more suitable for my 17.5 cm wrist. This anvil is now mine ... with one frustration nonetheless, that of not having been able to dive with ... Indeed, between the restriction of travel and the closure of the diving pit due to the Covid 19 pandemic, I will have to wait some more a little before it could take a bath worthy of her pedigree ... even if that will necessarily be ridiculous in view of its technical characteristics ... In the meantime, it remained on my wrist for a long time despite the arrival of superb pieces in my small accumulation.

They may look similar but oh how different they are!

Here is some pic of my threesome

Thank you for your review on your three divers a little different from mine, but not that far apart.

Best Ø

When one is at service, you can wear the same. But missing when at service, it can always be faster getting the watch back.

I’ve quite the same trio…
