I have been looking for a "sport" watch and it is hard to buy some of them at this time . . .

. . . because of the premiums they are getting. The movements on these watches and the build quality, while good, are not nearly at the level of other watches in the price range these are going for. For example, why would I pay double retail for an AP Royal Oak Chrono when for that kind of money I can get an F P Journe Linesport Rattrapante which is a much nicer piece, both the movement and the dial? Obviously, the FPJ will still cost more than the AP Chrono, but suddenly it looks like a value play in comparison.

...and paid retail. I'm not sure what better watches you're thinking about in the $13,000 range. I wanted him to have one do-almost-everything watch that would last him the rest of his life, like my '83 Submariner will for me. Whatever one thinks of Rolex...

There is a certain segment of people with the means for whom this is wrist jewelry, like the female segment that pays multiples of retail for must-show high-end handbags. Since this category of men generally don’t carry handbags, they instead wear a diffi...

I find it so weird how people all of a sudden 'love' these designs when a decade ago these Genta designs were called old fashioned, 70s designs and no one wanted them. A lot of people aren't into this for the love of the watches or because they actually l...
Why is it weird?

Tastes change with time, same way we do not wear 80s clothing anymore.

I doubt it. I think a lot of factors played a part and it's more ''oh he has one, I should get one as well''. Yeah sure, some people actually like it but I'm not convinced about the others. In 2015/16 a lot of people also started buying vintage Porsches (...
True.

One other factor to consider

There are grey dealers now directly accepting cryptocurrency. In that light, it’s hard to know that watches are being bought by traditional buyers/watch speculators. While Birkin bags and over-list Daytonas have existed for decades(and I don’t know that w...
If we go do this route...

focusing on prices and the grey market it will inevitably damage the harmony of our community.
I wouldn’t pay more than suggested retail price on the Rolex website.

And I wouldn’t pay more than $10 for GME. But there are all kinds of people out there. Value, or valuation means nothing to them. The manufacturer is telling you that the Cosmograph Daytona should trade at a price 60% below the black market price. And the...
Daytona Price

Not sure if it was accurate but it was rumored this size Daytona would be discontinued . That drove the secondary price up . Since that did not happen the prices were coming down. I am not saying that someone should not make money on an investment but why...

I went to pick up an IWC Top Gun Ceratanium from a Rolex/Patek/Lange/IWC AD recently and saw a stainless steel Sky Dweller with bleu dial in the window when I was waiting to be let in for the appointment (Covid ). So while I was chatting to the sales pers...
