No AD?

I went to pick up an IWC Top Gun Ceratanium from a Rolex/Patek/Lange/IWC AD recently and saw a stainless steel Sky Dweller with bleu dial in the window when I was waiting to be let in for the appointment (Covid wink).

So while I was chatting to the sales person I asked him if everything in the window was for sale and he replied the Sky Dweller is second hand, €22.500,-
Quite disappointing to be honest smile

In The Netherlands it looks like all the Rolex and PP AD's are fine selling watches above retail, having "second hand" stores and even place it in between their primary stores.

Its a sad time if you ask me, to many people who just want to send out signals with watches want the models like royal oak's and nautilus now sad
And the AD's seem to be allowed to serve the crowd by asking way above retail.

Saw this in a "fine jewelry" store that sells new watches and used/traded-in watches. Not a Rolex AD...

The sticker price for this used watch in the store was US$31500.00 Insane, but then a quick web search for the same watch for sale on the internet is in the US$36-40,000.00 range Makes no sense at all. ...

Totally overpriced and not worth it at all

True watch collectors are not buying these. There so many other nicer watches to get in those price ranges.

Well, I bought one for my son's 30th birthday...

...and paid retail. I'm not sure what better watches you're thinking about in the $13,000 range. I wanted him to have one do-almost-everything watch that would last him the rest of his life, like my '83 Submariner will for me. Whatever one thinks of Rolex...

+1!

It makes perfect sense to me.

There is a certain segment of people with the means for whom this is wrist jewelry, like the female segment that pays multiples of retail for must-show high-end handbags. Since this category of men generally don’t carry handbags, they instead wear a diffi...

I find it so weird how people all of a sudden 'love' these designs when a decade ago these Genta designs were called old fashioned, 70s designs and no one wanted them. A lot of people aren't into this for the love of the watches or because they actually l...

Why is it weird?

Tastes change with time, same way we do not wear 80s clothing anymore.

I doubt it. I think a lot of factors played a part and it's more ''oh he has one, I should get one as well''. Yeah sure, some people actually like it but I'm not convinced about the others. In 2015/16 a lot of people also started buying vintage Porsches (...

True.

I guess we don't want to discuss market prices here, but my best suggestion is indeed to never spend a cent above retail, even for the most beautiful Rolexes or Pateks ;-)

However, this is the market value for the most "popular" watches, and is only getting more and more competitive -- it's just a fact of life. Hence, I can't judge someone who wants a given watch and sees the grey market as their best bet ;-) Not for me, bu...

Well spoken...

One other factor to consider

 By: bchankai : April 25th, 2021-22:48
There are grey dealers now directly accepting cryptocurrency. In that light, it’s hard to know that watches are being bought by traditional buyers/watch speculators. While Birkin bags and over-list Daytonas have existed for decades(and I don’t know that w...

focusing on prices and the grey market it will inevitably damage the harmony of our community.

I wouldn’t pay more than suggested retail price on the Rolex website.

And I wouldn’t pay more than $10 for GME. But there are all kinds of people out there. Value, or valuation means nothing to them. The manufacturer is telling you that the Cosmograph Daytona should trade at a price 60% below the black market price. And the...

Not sure if it was accurate but it was rumored this size Daytona would be discontinued . That drove the secondary price up . Since that did not happen the prices were coming down. I am not saying that someone should not make money on an investment but why...

I have been looking for a "sport" watch and it is hard to buy some of them at this time . . .

 By: Jim14 : April 29th, 2021-17:11
. . . because of the premiums they are getting. The movements on these watches and the build quality, while good, are not nearly at the level of other watches in the price range these are going for. For example, why would I pay double retail for an AP Roy...
