I got a chance to try both of these on at an AD... while there's no arguing that the SD Red is a perfect specimen, and preferable to a Sub--my issue w it is that it looks too much like a Sub. So, at a glance, you have 'a Sub' on your wrist... the Red is so subtle as to be invisible generally to the naked, glancing eye... I also feel, generally, that there is no 'guts' in this choice. It's a black on black Rolex diver. OK, with respect, I choose the 126660 (not any previous reference for the Deep Sea, even the previous Cameron--only this newest ref) because it has the new movement (not crucial, but seductive upgrade) and the far, far better (critical upgrade) elegant 22 mm bracelet and altogether cleaner taper. These subtle differences make it a VERY balanced and easy to wear BIG beautiful mad-hatter of an irresistible, weird and cool and 'out there' choice, for a Rolex diver... and one that will not be mistaken for a Sub, or frankly anything but what it is-- a one of a kind Rolex. Love it. I would add, again, this is a big watch but NOTHING is out of balance any more--in fact, it just plain fantastically composed--and if you know me or my taste and posts, you know I would HATE this watch if it was not composed. Balanced. In it's way, elegant. Totally irresistible. The crazy Rolex? And I did not even mention the insanely unique Cameron dial. That green DEEPSEA font? Fuggetaboutit. Finally, I would add, even the tall wall of the 9 o'clock side does not bother me at all. It is now a balanced part of the --yes--big--whole. The case/bracelet/ thick, mad, fun-house crystal/ gradient dial combo in this iteration is a smash, to me.
