Rolex 6239: The Chronograph which should have been called " Le Mans " and not Daytona?
The evidence? An advertising from 1964, found on the net ( credit unknown ). 
" It is called Le Mans ".
I could take some pictures of an early 6239, dating from early 1963, with a serial number which is 923 xxx. The same that on the advertising, bracelet apart.
And a pretty nice looking one!
Interesting what you can learn from these olds ads...

Yes, the original 6239 was supposed to be called the "Le Mans" and not the Daytona. There are several stories of why Rolex decided to change the name but I don't know if it is universally accepted that one is more accurate than the others. Another thing, ...
Well mon ami, back then these were considered tool watches whereas nowadays and even in the 90s, the Daytona was already considered wrist jewelry and Rolex took full advantage...
