Never seen such a huge amount of Rolex

May 21, 2019,21:17 PM

Those who visited Hong Kong, there's a small shopping center located on the famous Nathan Road Chung Hing Building, right next to Holiday Inn. Honestly as a residence of HK, I have never walked inside this building, and this shopping arcade has been renovated recently, I discovered a whole new sights. With tiny sized shops, so many watch shops selling new and secondhand Rolex primarily. I am sure they have more stocks than any AD in HK, I saw so many Daytona, Pepsi, Batman, Hulk, SD, DS, available with a hefty premium, some from local stocks and some from overseas stocks, the sight definitely stunned you, I did and here are photos to prove what I am saying... No watches have price tags because they fluctuated with the daily demand, the so called "market price". If you are in HK, do have a look around, and in case you want one at premium, they accept cash only..

This is so sad for the real watch lovers.

On the one hand everyone is entitled to buy and sell a watch as he/she wants. However, although not really interested in any of the watches shown, I feel a bit upset for some people really saving hard to get their dream watch and then being confronted wit...

Quite revolting to see

Economies of scale, free market etc. Who to blame? Rolex. Would you expect all AD's to sell at retail, when knowingly, the watch could be resold at at a much higher

price, thus losing out on an opportunity' or providing the buyer that opportunity? It has certainly come down to investment. If you had a chance to buy say 5 Rolex sports watches at retail, would your eyes light up, and imagine dollar signs? It's unfortun...

Is it really that sad?

Wouldn’t true watch enthusiasts care less about the current situation as they appreciate most brands? I mean I do like some of those hyped models but I really don’t care about them.

yes and no

As I stated, I have no interest in any of these models. But imagine that you're really wanted a specific watch, nothing to do with the hype, just of a specific reason, perhaps to complete a collection etc. I understand you could go for another brand. But ...

I fully understand. Realistically, is putting your name on the wait list and waiting for many years for these watches.

Rather than waiting, the option available is buying the dream watch at a price. The good thing is, is that there is this option to buy, otherwise the dream watch would just be a waiting game, with no guarantee of buying. I am not agreeing with the inflate...

I fully agree with you.

One thing that bothers me is all this crying you can see daily in pretty much every watchforum (PuristS excluded) and the only reason I can think of, is that they're worried to pay too much and don't like it that they're unable to grasp some quick cash. I...

It's hard to believe that Rolex is not addressing this problem and shifting production to meet demands. Instead continue manufacturing

the less popular models which we see stagnant in the AD's and boutiques. Hard to believe that Rolex has increased their profits with this strategy. The only ones profiting from this, are the grey market sellers, the losers are the real buyers. This is wha...

Kinda silly

Nothing communicates rarity worse than putting 5 identical watches right next to each other😐. I can't understand the store's thinking here.

Let's count: 10x ceramic Pepsi GMTs, 2x ceramic Rootbeer GMTs

 By: reintitan : May 21st, 2019-22:58
6x Hulks, 10x ceramic SS Daytonas (5 white dial/5 black dial), 3x green-dialed solid gold Daytonas that John Mayer loves so much, 8x no-date ceramic Subs all in nice rows. Guarantee you'll never see that at any AD.

Same thing in USA

I went with my wife to a jewelry exchange in Aventura. Many of the hard to get Rolexs are there, available at a mark up.

I've had a thought!!

Hi all, Well just maybe Rolex actually does not know exactly what it is doing and is letting all these grey dealers load up with as many watches as they can and all at over RRP and is actually making and stockpiling lots of these models and when it feels ...

These shops have been around for many many years.

This area, and these little arcades / malls are a must visit for any watch lover when in HK. There are many pieces in these windows which are not easily seen elsewhere, some independents, various high horology pieces etc. If you walk a little further you ...

Count me out! I won’t be playing these games...

I love watches too much. There are a lot of better priced options available right now in my opinion. Maybe this will be a good thing for other brands and watch enthusiasts. Besides exuberant prices, what else could stop this ‘brand whoring’?

Never paid over retail and never had a problem buying from my AD.

So.... I will keep on doing so. ...

You have a very good AD

All AD here in HK never sell RRP, unless watches are of no public interest. I should visit your AD and purchase from them, where?
