During years, I was a fan of JLC (Reverso, Amvox, Tribute to Polaris, to Deep Sea, Duometre,...).
Unfortunately I find that « La Grande Maison » has lost a lot of its charm except in fine watchmaking where the models are crazy.
For me during years Rolex had too much of a "social status" connotation to me, which was wrong.
I realy discover the brand during a trip in Hong Kong (2014).
I was visiting a seller to buy a Deep Sea Chronograph. This watch had been sold a few days before and he only had Rolex. So I’ve try one because I’m curious and fell in love with the 114060.
Some months later I bought a 116600 at CDG airport which only stayed on my wrist during the flight. Forgotten on the hotel nightstand, the sea dweller was no longer there when I returned from my meeting.
Currently in terms of Rolex I still have my 114060, the 116500 black dial, two 126710 (BLRO and BLNR), a 214270, a 126622 (Rhodium dial) and I just found a 116600 nos at an acceptable price.
I thus accumulated a few models after having dreamed by reading posts on forums or books which made me discover the brand and love it.
The air king is due to join them soon. I am waiting to see if Rolex releases a Milgauss in September with an appearance similar to the 6541. Otherwise I will take an 116400 (non GV whose production was stopped in 2017 if my memory serves me correctly). I'm also on a list for a Sky Steel Black Dial and a DJ 41 Black Dial Jubilee Fluted Bezel.
At the same time, I read and try to learn before hunting 4 numbers. A friend lent me his Newman for a few days this summer ... it’s amazing. I delivered it back with a real pang in my heart. I also had a friend’s Comex on my wrist ... which made me want to find again the 116600.
As vintages, I will probably look for a sub of 71 (5512/5513 or 1680 red), a 6541 certainly. In short, it’s endless fun. So far I'm learning what is also a real pleasure.
