Welcome to the Black Bay!

Aug 01, 2019,03:36 AM

As I am wearing my S&G right now, I think it is one of the most enjoyable purchases in horology I had for years. Even if the 58 would be a tad too small and date-less for me, the Black Bay series as a whole is a magnificent way to celebrate the tradition of mechanical watchmaking. It is solid, has wonderful looks, high quality, and is also unique movement-wise. That at an extremely competitive price.

I do not have words...

A good friend, who is also visiting Watchprosite on regular basis, gave a present. He is a Patek collector and we recently discussed about, what else, watches. I told him that I have been thinking about buying Tudor 58 and next morning he showed me a phot...

Everything you have said ...

Enjoy the watch, I think it's beautiful.

Thank you.

Not just beautiful but really well made, too. Best, Kari

I couldn’t agree more. It’s a great watch.

P.S. I would like to be friends with your friend. 😏 Regards Kev. ...

He's a great guy

but he seems to be picky with his friends. I supposed he's selecting people who are a bit nuts and weird. Best, Kari

Tudor are on fire.

 By: Rapwatch : July 29th, 2019-09:31
Let's be honest they are Rolexes in mindset, design, execution, chronometry, fit, finish and service backup. Your words "heavily, really heavily overpriced" rang very true in my mind when we think about everyone else. The cool thing about them is they can...

An other way of looking at the same issue is:

Tudor is really underpriced, a real bargain. Best, Kari

I love it when our hobby produces actions and stories like this!

Congratulations, and thank you for your review on this piece!

Thanks. That wasn't a review. Yet.

I have to remove the stickers first. My post was just "first impression". Best, Kari

And remember, 58 is just 11.9 mm think.

 By: dr.kol : July 29th, 2019-09:53
A relatively slim dive watch. Best, Kari

It is a great Tudor

By: COUNT DE MONET : July 29th, 2019-10:13
Very sensible in every way, as you are saying. Congrats to such a friend!

I just got also Rolex new Pepsi

 By: dr.kol : July 29th, 2019-10:27
and I wonder why a product of the same factory can cost 2.5 times Tudor 58... It's beautiful, a well made diver and a real bargain. Best, Kari

The BB GMT can not hold up against the 58

By: COUNT DE MONET : July 29th, 2019-10:53
Too thick, too big for my taste, only. Proportions are simply not working on me. The 58 is perfect! Very, very simmilar to a 14060, even more comfortable.

I agree 100% with you.

 By: dr.kol : July 29th, 2019-11:00
I ordered Tudor GMT when it was introduced and finally ended wearing Pepsi. Simply better proportions. However, in my opinion there are no Rolex Submariners which could compete with 58. Best, Kari

The 14060, Sub no date is a stark argument

By: COUNT DE MONET : July 29th, 2019-11:06
However, the 58 looks lovely vintage.

Congratulations Doc!

People are slow.

My friend who gave me the watch decided to turn into a Flipper. He will get 10 of those. Kari

What a wonderful and generous gesture of your friend Karl! Congrats of both of you! Absolutely agree with your comments about the BB58...

 By: Subexplorer : July 29th, 2019-11:59
... I share with you those comments. I have been a fan of the BB since day one, and own an example of the red bezel ETA movement example, a later model with new movement and black bezel, a GMT, a chrono and a Bronzo. My only complain has been its thicknes...

You should be fast to get yours

 By: dr.kol : July 29th, 2019-12:14
before my friend buys them all! Best, Kari

Ha ha ha!! [nt]

 By: Subexplorer : July 30th, 2019-05:32

He placed already a big order.

 By: dr.kol : July 30th, 2019-05:59
"Presents", he claims. But I can smell a future Flipper. Kari

Ahh ok. [nt]

May I ask...

 By: jim_94104 : July 29th, 2019-12:46
why is it called a 58?! Thanks.

I do not have the slightest idea.

 By: dr.kol : July 29th, 2019-12:57
Perhaps it got its inspiration from 1958 Submariner. I don't know. Kari

Thanks for explanation.

 By: dr.kol : July 29th, 2019-13:35
Well done Rolex. Sorry, Tudor. But who really cares. Same thing wrapped into different paper. Kari

Thanks!! [nt]

 By: jim_94104 : July 29th, 2019-13:45

Congratulations. I agree should be in a collection.

I’ve had mine a while and love it and wear it often. It is so much watch for the money. I enjoy mine on this strap. Enjoy your very kind gift my friend. M. ...

Seems like whoever wears that, it's the right size.

 By: dr.kol : July 29th, 2019-13:37
I need to get the leather strap with folding clasp. It would be nice to change every now and then... Best, Kari

Yes my original rose logo BB has this strap.

 By: Miles_151 : July 29th, 2019-14:37
The black distressed leather strap and buckle is very nice. The brown distressed is also great. M. ...

Get it fast before it's too late.

Lol. Kari

After reading all the good things said about this watch here

 By: jim_94104 : July 29th, 2019-21:27
went to the SF AD and was told the wait list is now about 3 months

Only three months!

 By: dr.kol : July 29th, 2019-22:20
That is remarkable. I guess 58 is simply too cheap. But when my friend starts to buy these watches, the queue will get longer... Best, Kari

Welcome to the Black Bay!

Both on having a great friend and on your latest addition. I look forward to reading your impressions of the 58 after wearing it in. Personally I am a big fan. For long the black bay series was aesthetically appealing to me but the dimensions were not. Wh...

A Tudor, especially 58, is a great addition to finest watches like Patek. Tudor is a perfect watch for hobbies like swimming, diving, shooting, snowmobiling, etc. A watch which can take the punishments and still both feel and look good. All this with a ve...

Yes just back from some time on the east coast in the US, now Turkey and off to some Greek islands tonight! And the 58 is along for the journey, perfect for the summer! Hope you are having a great summer with family (and some watches)!

The same to you!

 By: dr.kol : August 4th, 2019-01:48
Yes, this summer brought some great watches but till now, I will keep them as my own pleasure. I have been thinking a lot the motivations behind sharing watches in the social media and I did not like too much my conclusions. All the best, Kari
