This looks like it was burnt, not patina in general, we get this kind of look in orders and medals collecting a lot with gold thats been through house fires :( [nt]
Would be interesting to see the caseback and what the extent is there.
Christies state the patina is due to the watch been unworn (most likely). Part of my question above is whether or not this is a logical answer, and supported by science.
The case back is mostly still yellow gold, with a nice ring of patina around the outer edge.
