I picked up the polar dial version last week and I am supposed to be keeping it as a Christmas present but it is testing my resolve!

I used to have an old version...but not anymore - it is a damn good beater, in deed an 'explorer' Best, mahesh., ...  

On the previous version of the black dial Explorer II, the hands are all blacked out at the base. On the current version they are not. Anyone have any thoughts/preferences between those two?
