Daytona vs Daytona
Dec 12, 2018,11:17 AM
Fellow Rolex friends:
Question for you: my uncle is currently choosing between a semi vintage Zenith Daytona 16520 and a brand new white gold Daytona on an Oysterflex. Both full set. Both within the same price range.
He asked me which to choose if only one.
I gave him my opinion. What do you guys think?
His criteria are: ability to wear as a daily beater across multiple settings, value retention/appreciation potential and durability of movement.

Did you edit your post. If not then 16520 would be my choice as well. Sorry for confusion. M.

One of mine ...

Note that “beater” and “value retention” don’t necessarily work together. I think for the 16520 if relatively clean now but worn daily as a beater over time will impact value of course. But it’s still my choice!

i would go for the 16520 as well. now if he can get the daytona now in steel, i think that will also hold its value in the long run. i would prefer stainless models in rolex over WG

Value retention steel. Comfort the oyster flex. Best watch in my view the 18kt watch with the rubber strap. Will be worth the steel never, but what are you looking for?
No not Porcelain.

All 16520 white dials have black sub dial surrounds. Porcelain dials were the very first run of the 16520 in 1988 R7 serials and the dial looks like Porcelain. The manufacturing process of this dial was different to all other 16520. The reason for this is...
You are very welcome.

But you are right to have a Porcelain dial 16520 on your radar Best. Miles.
