Thank you for the comments guys.
Finding out about the history of a watch is just as interesting to me as the watch itself.
I hope my research can do it justice. I am always on the look out for watches like this with a interesting history, I have three at the moment which need further investigation but it is difficult at times knowing where to start or look other than searching the web.
The one that has been a difficult but enjoyable one is my Sir Wally Herbert / Allan Gill 1016 explorer, I am 100% certain that the watch went to the North pole but cannot prove it. I nearly sold it this year then came to my senses. Only one of the original 4 man team is alive today but I cannot find a contact email or number for Dr Ken Hedges anywhere. I think I will start another post on this here, perhaps someone my point me in the right direction. I have searched photos and have found what look like 1016s on the wrists of Sir Wally and Allan gill but nothing close up. I don't want to lose the history behind it.
Thanks Mick

One of my oldest friends is Tony, the son of Bob Eastaugh, I remember Bob wearing that when I was a kid and it started my fascination with watches I am sure. I have berated Tony since for selling it and not telling me ...but amazing to see it once again. ...
