I also worry about the safety issue

Aug 11, 2022,03:04 AM

I have changed straps on a couple of my Rolexes so that they are a bit more camouflaged (at least I hope so).  But am still careful about when and where I wear them.

I am curious if you feel that the BB is that much less obvious.  From a distance, I think the BB could easily be mistaken for a Rolex to someone that is not that familiar with watches.  I had the Tudor GMT and plenty of people mistook that for a Rolex.  Perhaps the pepsi style bezel stands out more.

A Rolex concern and why the Black Bay 58 is my solution to the problem

 By: andrea~ : August 11th, 2022-08:09
Rolex is a brand that I love, but a couple of things are making me concerned about wearing one: Number 1: too recognizable. Having to receive questions about how much you paid or wether or not your watch is real is an annoyance I'm sure many of us had to ...

I enjoy both

My Sub and BB58. I actually wear the Tudor more often. Unfortunately when I wear the Rolex, at times I am aware of the safety concern, which is a shame. Regarding availability, I was lucky to get in at the right time, several years ago, so I never had to ...

The products themselves are fantastic

The biggest problem with Rolex is how popular they are... The safety problem is the most important to me

Just sold the OP36 explorer style blue dial. Don’t plan on adding more Rolex anytime soon. The Sub is enough for me

I am happy with my datejust as well

Right now I don't plan on adding a new Rolex, but in the future I'm sure I'll set my sight on some more

I am concerned about the same thing

 By: andrea~ : August 11th, 2022-02:21
I find myself wearing mine only when I'm at home, or at the very least when I'm able to hide it under my cuff.

Well said

Same here, i stopped wearing Rolex. The perception is more devastating than good. It invites a lot of unnecessary nay say and jealous eyes. I’d rather wear something a few people know about.

I also worry about the safety issue

I have three main reasons

 By: andrea~ : August 11th, 2022-07:46
The first is that the BB is moderately sized, all brushed and has an alluminum bezel and a matte dial. These all make it a bit less blingy. Reason number two is that you can easily tell a curious inquirer that it's not a Rolex And the third is that if I d...

Who wouldn't 😅

I agree that rolex is too recognized

 By: TeutonicCarFan : August 11th, 2022-04:03
That is why I steered clear save for a ND sub. Sad it is a versatile piece. For what it's worth, most people probably think that's a sub from a far.

That's true

 By: andrea~ : August 11th, 2022-07:49
But the BB58 is not as risky to wear since it's not nearly as expensive and blingy

Sorry to read you wear your Rolex less.

 By: George Gently : August 11th, 2022-04:24
I do wear my Rolex everywhere I go. Even can’t remember the last time anyone asked me anything about the watch or made some kind of remark. Fortunately I don’t feel or notice any bagage coming with it. Regards, George

I wear it a lot when I'm indoors

 By: andrea~ : August 11th, 2022-07:50
I just try to avoid wearing it when in the city because it could draw unwanted attention

I never considered buying a watch from a Rolex AD. Well it happened to me twice, but in 98% of the cases, no. Tudor make some great and cool watches, this is more than ok for me.

Now about safety... I wear my watches without fear. I was everywhere in the world, with the watches I wanted on my wrist, without issue. The only time I had a problem was at home. I was burglarized and lost 22 watches. Irony... Best, Nicolas

I'm so sorry, that's terrible!

I don't even want to imagine how heart breaking it must have been

Yes, life must go on

 By: andrea~ : August 11th, 2022-09:02

I do understand your point and partly share your concerns, though probably more in nature than in grade... Ironically, for the same reason, I've been wearing Rolexes much more than Pateks recently, and they are now often my daily choice! :-)

 By: FabR : August 11th, 2022-08:08
Always in full honesty, I don't have much interest in Tudor though. Its quality/price ratio is definitely high, and I'm sure that much of the interest in the brand is genuinely determined by its product. But it's also true that many collectors have recent...

I understand

 By: andrea~ : August 11th, 2022-08:59
Tudor isn't an exact replacement of Rolex, but a few models come very close, like the BB58

That's true

 By: andrea~ : August 11th, 2022-09:00
And the fact that those watches are brushed adds to the understated factor. Unfortunately that's not the case with my datejust. It's a discreet 36mm, but still quite blingy because of the PCLs.

Definitely agree with your post

I really like my BB58s and wear them without worrying . To bad these days its not so safe to wear a watch with a high value or ,,hype,, status

Quite a shame indeed

 By: andrea~ : August 11th, 2022-09:01
But I do find mysef being worried only when I have my Rolex on, I can wear more expensive watches without problem, like my Ed White or my Reverso, because they draw less attention.

I wear and use everything that I have, Watches included.

My daily is my GMTII Batman, and due to my work sometimes I’m in very dangerous areas of New York City. All my Rolex are from AD got them true a long relationship that I developed over the years, and I wear them as intended without fear. As for the percep...

I admire your attitude

I tend to be a lowkey guy so the least appealing aspect of Rolex is the recognizability. I still wear it really often, but I pick the days carefully.

I too have a BB 58. I alternate it with my no date Sub. And i enjoy wearing it. Although i get more stares when wearing my Rolex Sub. 😂

 By: geross : August 11th, 2022-11:01
I understand your predicament. Just have to go to decent places your familiar with. The Tudor BB 58 is definitely, a cool watch. 😊👍 Geross.

Exacty

Rolex if you know where you're going, Tudor if you feel adventurous

👍😎

I wore a YG DD on a President bracelet for 30 years.

 By: Uncle Chico : August 11th, 2022-11:44
It was my one watch collection and I wore it daily under a cuff with a suit and tie. When I retired it started to attract uncomfortable attention when worn with casual clothes so I sold it. My solution was to buy less recognisable brands. Rather than give...

That's unfortunate

 By: andrea~ : August 11th, 2022-13:25
But I get it, discretion is as valuable as ever.

You make a valid point.

 By: mrds : August 11th, 2022-13:50
Also for me, I don’t like to get too much attention from my watch. But I still wear all my watches, including Rolex. If I didn’t wear a watch, I‘d sell it. When I decided what watch to wear for my trip to London for the next few days, I did consider a Sub...

I really don’t wear my Rolex much anymore.

 By: Jay (Eire) : August 11th, 2022-14:31
It’s all situational, but for me 90% of the time these days I’m going with something that I don’t think will catch eyes. That means no Rolex (I have a precious (coloured) metal Rolex sitting unworn for over two years) and generally nothing of high value (...

You have a great watch!

 By: andrea~ : August 11th, 2022-15:49
The BB58 really ticks all the boxes without the brand baggage

Owned Rolex for over 10 years, not once has someone asked me if it was real

 By: CGJ0 : August 11th, 2022-22:07
Says more about the company than it does about the brand. Just buy what you like.

Interesting post

 By: Drek : August 12th, 2022-17:59
I have the ND sub and the BB58. I bought the ND sub as I think it’s the perfect watch for me and I still do. Touch wood, I’ve never felt unsafe wearing it, but what is frustrating is when I wear it people always want to discuss the price. I want to talk a...

That is true

 By: andrea~ : August 12th, 2022-21:42
I have never heard any questions regarding the price of my Tudor, which is great. With my Datejust I often get them.

Although a passing nod to history, these BB58 Models are extremely good in their own right.
