These Hulk are getting rarer and rarer in the wild.

I know lots of ppl who own one in pristine condition and refuse to use it as a daily beater because this is a keeper and they want to preserve it. Same for myself.

Satisfaction

 By: Jay (Eire) : October 12th, 2022-11:55
For several reasons I get more satisfaction from Rolex than any other watch on the wrist. Some of that is simply down to branding or marketing, the aspirational aspect of Rolex, and what I have consciously or subconsciously bought into. I think some folks...

I wholeheartedly agree

If you told me I could only collect one brand, it would be Rolex. If you told me I could only wear one watch for the rest of my life, it would be my datejust. If you actually consider a watch for its main purpose of telling the time and being reliable, I ...

Thanks for your thoughts Andrea.

As I mentioned below in replying to Myles your point is key here, there’s good solid product here (regardless of the marketing juggernaut).

Exactly!

Rolex knows how to make a perfect watch, no matter how overhyped the brand is, the quality is there.

It shows how deeply pervasive their marketing and

branding is. Exactly why (no dis on Rolex or Rolex owners) I didn’t go with them. For me it was too expected. When the brand becomes so status driven and ubiquitous it waters down (for me) the authenticity. There are IMO similar brands like Porsche that o...

And that’s the difference.

 By: Jay (Eire) : October 12th, 2022-20:55
I wholeheartedly acknowledge the marketing and what it has done, and how it makes one feel, and am happily onboard. Others will walk away from this quickly. Thankfully it’s not “just marketing”, both in the case of Rolex and Porsche. There are most defini...

Totally agree…

This is definitely a matter of taste (high class problems) I went with Omega. There is very little difference in quality, style and status between the two unless you are either an Omega or Rolex owner 😂🤣😆 but even then there are certainly no losers…just w...

I can sympathize with this.

I have it’s older brother (Kermit) which I rarely wear and the longer that goes the less likely I take it out day to day. The Hulk on the other hand has been a regularly worn watch from the beginning.

Great insights that I can certainly relate to.

But how do you mean by aspirational? Do you mean‘how difficult to get’ (not financially)? In such case, why wouldn’t you consider PP or AP aspirational? Perhaps you do see those also as such, but not necessarily the same way as Rolex.

 By: Jay (Eire) : October 12th, 2022-21:01
I mean it more in terms of something to aspire to, to mark some success or some stage in life. PP and AP are too niche to be broadly aspirational in the same way. And some of the satisfaction I get from this Rolex, and any Rolex, is in part due to its pla...

I agree about Rolex. It's more the subconscious stuff than the branding.

 By: U3O8 : October 12th, 2022-12:49
Rolex has "conditioned" or "trained" a lot of watch enthusiasts to believe in the Rolex proportions and ratios. The size, shape, weight of the watch. The functionality and versatility. There's something about a Rolex watch that is just so perfect, and the...

This is a great point that I didn’t directly reference.

 By: Jay (Eire) : October 12th, 2022-21:06
To your point I’ve said before that I like many others when thinking about what a watch is it’s a Rolex Sub (or something with that design, shape, proportions etc) that I think of. That’s an incredible position to have ones brand / product fill. And that’...

One thing is for sure one should not dismiss Rolex in our journey. I did at one point but changed my mind as i get also great joy of wearing the one i have and was able to get...

The thing with Rolex for me anyway, I always want to add another reference as soon as i get one...i just keep wanting more )) And i LOVE wearing those already in the collection

This seems pretty common, so I don’t think you’re alone in taking that route.

 By: Jay (Eire) : October 14th, 2022-00:15
For me, it’s been the constant over 25 years or so. I’ve never sold a Rolex, interestingly, instead it’s just always been a situation of adding one every 3-5 years or so.

Very true!

It is the most comfortable watches to wear

even though I have very small wrist, I just put on my 114060 or 126300 and go on with my day. The shallow me feel happy 😊

Back at you in NYC also now

...

It’s what happens when a brand is consistent all throughout..

 By: Echi : October 13th, 2022-08:26
Impressive, really. And the audacity to live up to its logo! You gotta love how it can be so sure of itself and it manifests down to how it feels on the wrist. You close that clasp and it almost feels like it’s giving you a snappy salute

Very interesting, Jay. We are many to have started with Rolex as our first watch, then to have visited other horizons, and to have come back to Rolex.

 By: amanico : October 13th, 2022-09:06
Not that everything is perfect with Rolex, but they work, like an old Porsche. Flawlessly, fearless... They ooze quality and reliability. The horological world cannot be summed to Rolex, but they are an important part to it. Best, Nicolas

Indeed Nicolas, Rolex is not watches and watches are not simply Rolex.

But for many, novice and experienced collectors Rolex commands a place and for several different reasons. I’m not ashamed to say their watches do evoke specific feelings for me, but also it’s not fair to dismiss Rolex based on this as there’s a good produ...

I completely agree with you. Rolex engineering is second to none, first and foremost. This is a quality that makes the watches so dependable. Then you have the aesthetic design. The models for the most part have he same DNA. A bit like the 911. And they

are for the most part good looking watches. The robust quality has enabled the most famous wear their watches, be it Bond, explores, mountaineers, divers or aviators. I think that is unique over a period of 80 years??
