So what’s your take on this Rolex coming up for auction? I would say personally the patina has gone a teensy weensy bit too far, but that’s just me. Credit Phillips. ...

Hiroshima? [nt]

Better trademark that before the people at TRF run off with it.

Would you buy a rusty car that doesn't run or need overhaul? Maybe if its got good bones or chassis but this....

The dial, hands are all rusty....I don't even know the movements...If this one goes crazy on price, I think this is again one of the crazy, easy money that buys "bragging rights". Not for me, sorry but of course, I don't have those crazy, easy money, lol

I just showed my wife

First, the bracelet looks weird...

 By: mdg : October 15th, 2020-16:10
...second, I have NEVER understood the love of 'tropical' dials. We used to call those 'damaged.'

First thing I would do would be to throw it on a strap

 By: Brandon Skinner : October 15th, 2020-16:22
Personally, I don’t mind Tropical and in many cases think it adds to the beauty of the watch. Personally I think this dial is owed a new term... tropical was it’s previous life. This is, as dhendolan says, its Hiroshima!

Hai, so desu : ) [nt]

Manufacturer: Year: Material: Bracelet/Strap: Clasp/Buckle: Dimensions: Signed: Catalogue Essay A most unusual proposal, this wrist tool fully epitomizes Rolex's original vocation as a tool watch company. In this instance, the concept is truly brought to ...

These descriptions are very rich

No serials to speak of? ...Obviously a prototype! Missing parts? ...Intentional! The main plate only served to anchor the dial! Soldering of the bezel? ...irrefutable proof this was not a modified Bubbleback! And my favorite... “soldering marks around the...

Too much patina for me [nt]

I definitely don’t understand “this” one

 By: Brandon Skinner : October 15th, 2020-18:05
It’s low estimate is 5-8x higher than my low estimate

I guess all that says is that we won’t be working in the auction business.

There are a few really cool DD’s in the catalog. Stone dials. Always found them really appealing.

Hilarious 😆 [nt]

Ridiculous.

 By: vitalsigns : October 16th, 2020-06:14
The patina seems too uniform given how severe it is, therefore it appears contrived. Someone will buy it because he expects some other greater fool to buy it later. Not sure if this is peak vintage Rolex insanity, but to me it’s emblematic of that zeitgei...

A bit to much patina imho [nt]

Do Roelx dials from this period originaly have coating, that is over everything; text, emblem, indecsies and even phosporus dots?

 By: saarikettu : October 30th, 2020-23:19
Havent seen anything like this before, so must think what to say, but I dont know id dials should have such and layer over all, that can react like this? Or is there always surface protective layer, that is applied after dial is othervise 100% ready
